Հիսուս Քրիստոսի Պայծառակերպության տոնը կամ Վադավառը Հայ Եկեղեցու հինգ տաղավար տոներից երրորդն է:
Հիսուս Քրիստոսը, համաձայն Ավետարանի, Ս. Պետրոս, Ս. Հակոբոս և Ս. Հովհաննես առաքյալների հետ բարձրանում է Թաբոր լեռն` աղոթելու:
Աղոթքի պահին Հիսուս նրանց առաջ պայծառակերպվում է. «Դեմքը փայլեց, ինչպես արեգակը. և Նրա զգեստները դարձան սպիտակ` ինչպես լույսը» (Մատթեոս 17:2, Մարկոս 9:2, Ղուկաս 9:29): Աշակերտների ապշած աչքերի առջև Քրիստոս խոսում է շուրջ հազար տարի առաջ վախճանված Մովսեսի և հրեղեն կառքով երկինք համբարձված Ս. Եղիա մարգարեի հետ:
Այս տարի այն կնշվի հուլիսի 7-ին։
Այս տոնը հայտնի է նաև Վարդավառ անունով:
Տոնի ժամանակ ժողովրդական սովորույթներից է միմյանց վրա ջուր ցողելն ու աղավնիներ բաց թողնելը, որոնք խորհրդանշում են ջրհեղեղը, Նոյի ընտանիքի փրկությունը, Նոյի աղավնուն: Սովորություն է նաև ծաղիկներով զարդարվելը, ինչն Աստվածորդու փառքի երևման առթիվ մեծ ուրախության արտահայտություն է:
«Վարդավառ» ժողովրդական անվանումը, հավանաբար, գալիս է վարդաջուր լցնելու սովորությունից: Ս. Գրիգոր Տաթևացին տոնի «Վարդավառ» անունը բացատրում է Հիսուսին վարդի հետ համեմատելով. ինչպես վարդը մինչև բացվելը թաքնված է իր պատյանի մեջ և բացվելով` երևում է բոլորին, այնպես էլ Հիսուս մինչև այլակերպությունն Իր մեջ կրում էր աստվածային էությունը և պայծառակերպվելով` հայտնեց Իր Աստվածությունը:
Վարդավառի տոնին նախորդում է շաբաթապահք: Իսկ հաջորդ օրն, ինչպես տաղավար բոլոր տոներից հետո, Մեռելոց է. բոլոր եկեղեցիներում ննջեցյալների հոգիների համար մատուցվում է Ս. Պատարագ և կատարվում հոգեհանգիստ: Պայծառակերպության տոնով հաստատվեց այն ճշմարտությունը, որ Հիսուս Աստծո Որդին է: Աստծո պատգամն է առաքյալներին և ողջ աշխարհին. «Նրան լսեցեք»:
