В отношении Британского музея начато расследование по факту скрытых от публики древних эфиопских артефактов

Агентство по надзору за информацией проводит расследование в отношении Британского музея в связи с заявлениями о чрезмерной секретности некоторых из наиболее важных предметов своей коллекции – группы священных эфиопских алтарных скрижалей (таботов), которые были скрыты от посторонних глаз в музее более 150 лет, пишет The Guardian.
11 скрижалей из дерева и камня, которые, по признанию музея, были похищены британскими солдатами после битвы при Макдале в 1868 году, никогда не выставлялись на всеобщее обозрение и считаются настолько священными, что даже кураторам и попечителям музея запрещено их осматривать.
Долгое время звучали призывы вернуть их в Эфиопию, а в 2019 году министр культуры страны, посетивший музей, потребовал их возвращения.
В настоящее время участники кампании подали жалобу в Офис Уполномоченного по информации (ICO), утверждая, что музей не раскрыл ключевые детали внутренних дискуссий о таботах в ответ на запрос о свободе информации.
