Альтернативные слушания по Азербайджану пройдут в рамках сессии Совета ООН по правам человека

15 марта в Женеве в рамках 55-й сессии Совета ООН по правам человека пройдет параллельное мероприятие на тему «СМИ и гражданское общество Азербайджана находятся под давлением накануне COP29». Организатором мероприятия является Норвежский фонд Домов прав человека.
На мероприятии выступят азербайджанские журналисты в политическом изгнании – Арзу Гейбулла, Лейла Мустафаева и представитель Норвежского фонда Дома прав человека Кети Абашидзе.

По информации фонда, давление на независимые СМИ и гражданское общество в стране усилилось после того, как Совет ООН по правам человека рассмотрел доклад по Азербайджану в ноябре прошлого года. В частности, были арестованы журналисты и активисты.

«Последние репрессии прошли на фоне 235 политзаключенных в Азербайджане. Один из этих заключенных, ученый и политик Губад Ибадоглу, лишен жизненно важной медицинской помощи, и его здоровье продолжает серьезно ухудшаться», – сообщили в фонде.

Все это произошло накануне президентских выборов 7 февраля, в то время как Азербайджан готовится принять конференцию ООН по изменению климата в ноябре 2024 года.

Все это вызывает серьезные вопросы о ситуации в сфере прав человека и свободы выражения мнений в Азербайджане, отмечает Фонд Дома прав человека.
