Թեհրան կատարած պաշտոնական այցի վերջին օրը պաշտպանության նախարար Սուրեն Պապիկյանը հանդիպել է Իրանի նախագահ Էբրահիմ Ռայիսիին։ Թե՛ Իրանի պաշտպանության նախարարի և թե՛ Իրանի նախագահի հանդիպումների տոնայնությունը վկայում է՝ Պապիկյանը Իրան էր գնացել ընդամենը մեկ հարցով։

Որքան էլ հայկական կողմը փորձում է ներկայացնել, թե Իրանի հետ քննարկել են ռազմատեխնիկական համագործակցության հարցեր, իրականում Պապիկյանը մեկնել էր Իրան այդ երկրի դիրքորոշումները ճշտելու՝ Հայաստանի արտաքին քաղաքական վեկտորի փոփոխության հարցով։

Թե՛ Իրանի նախարար Աշտիյանին, թե՛ Էբրահիմ Ռայիսիին Սուրեն Պապիկյանին պարզ, առանց այլևայլության բացատրել են, որ տարածաշրջանի անվտանգությունը հնարավոր է ապահովել բացառապես տարածաշրջանի երկրի միջոցով։

«Օտարներին դաշտ տրամադրելն անվտանգություն չի բերելու, անվտանգությունն ու անդորրը միայն տարածաշրջանի երկրների հետ համագործակցությամբ է երաշխավորելու»,- ասել է Ռայիսիին։

Իրանական կողմը հատկապես դժգոհում է Հայաստանում Եվրամիության դիտորդներ բերելու Երևանի քայլից և բազմիցս այդ մասին զգուշացրել է, թեպետ Իրանը մի քանի անգամ նշել է, որ Հայաստանի տարածքային ամբողջականությունը կարմիր գիծ է իրենց համար, սակայն նաև հասկանում են, որ Արևմուտքի ներկայությունը Հայաստանում վտանգ է ներկայացնում նաև Թեհրանի շահերին, Երևանն էլ արդեն այնպես է խրվել այդ արևմտամետ դիսկուրսի և Արևմուտքին ռեվերանսներ անելու քայլերի մեջ, որ չի կարողանում հստակ և պարզ բացատրել գործընկերներին, թե ի՞նչ է ի վերջո իր ուզածը։

Մի քանի անգամ բանակցությունների փուլ է անցկացվել Իրանի հետ, որտեղ փորձել են ճշտել առանցքային հարևանի դիրքորոշումները։ Բոլոր դեպքերում իրանցիները հստակ նշել են, որ դեմ են Եվրամիության ներկայությանը, հատկապես հայ-իրանական սահմանին։
