Փետրվարի 21-ը Մայրենի լեզվի միջազգային օրն է

Մայրենի լեզվի միջազգային օրը (ՄԱԿ-ի լեզուներով. անգլ.՝ International Mother Language Day, իսպ.՝ Día Internacional de la Lengua Materna, ռուս.՝ Международный день родного языка, ֆր.՝ la Journée internationale de la langue maternelle) ընդունվել է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի Գլխավոր համաժողովի 30-րդ նստաշրջանի որոշումով 1999 թվականի նոյեմբեր ամսին և նշվում է 2000 թվականի փետրվարի 21-ից` որպես մայրենի լեզուների իրավունքների ճանաչման և գործածության աջակցման օր։ Մայրենի լեզվի միջազգային օրը 2005 թվականից նշվում է նաև Հայաստանում։
Ըստ ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի գնահատականի՝ աշխարհի վեց հազար լեզուներ կորստի մատնվելու եզրին են։
Շահիդ Մինար՝ Նահատակների հուշարձանը Բանգլադեշի Դաքքայի համալսարանում։ Հարգանքի տուրք է մատուցվում բենգալերենի համար պայքարի՝ 1952 թվականի փետրվարի 21-ի զոհերի հիշատակին։
1947 թվականին, երբ անգլիացիները վերջապես հեռանում են Հնդկաստանից, կազմավորվում է Պակիստան պետությունը։ Այն կազմված էր երկու խոշոր տարածաշրջաններից, որոնք իրարից կտրուկ տարբերվում էին մշակույթով և լեզվով. արևմտյան Պակիստանում իշխում էր ուրդու լեզուն, իսկ արևելյանում՝ բենգալերենը։ Չնայած բենգալերենը միլիոնավոր մարդկանց մայրենի լեզուն էր, սակայն 1948 թվականին Պակիստանի կառավարությունն ամբողջ երկրի համար պետական լեզու է հռչակում ուրդուն։
Կառավարության որոշումը երկրի արևելյան մասի բնակչության մեծ մասը դժգոհությամբ է ընդունում, բողոքի ցույցեր են տեղի ունենում։ Կառավարությունը ոչ միայն հաշվի չի նստում արևելյան տարածաշրջանի բնակիչների պահանջների հետ, այլև ճնշում է բենգալերենի պաշտպանությանն ուղղված ցույցերը։ Իսկ 1952 թվականին Դաքքա քաղաքում կայացած ուսանողական ցույցը ճնշելիս մի քանի մարդ զոհվում է, զոհվում են հանուն իրենց մայրենի լեզվի իրավունքի պաշտպանության։ Այս ողբերգական դեպքերի հետևանքով արդեն բողոքի զանգվածային ցույցեր են ծայր առնում։ Հակամարտության ընթացքում 1956 թվականին բենգալերենը, ի վերջո, պետական լեզվի կարգավիճակ է ստանում։
Մայրենի լեզվի իրավունքների համար մղվող պայքարը նպաստեց բենգալցիների ազգային ինքնագիտակցության աճին։ Ազգային-ազատագրական պատերազմից հետո Արևելյան Պակիստանն առանձնացավ, և 1971 թվականին առաջացավ նոր պետություն՝ Բանգլադեշը։
Բանգլադեշում փետրվարի 21-ը նշվում է որպես ազգային տոն՝ Մայրենի լեզվի օր, իսկ մայրաքաղաք Դաքքայում զոհված ուսանողների հիշատակին հուշարձան է կանգնեցված։
Բուռն իրադարձությունների հիշատակին 1999 թվականի նոյեմբերին ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ն փետրվարի 21-ը Մայրենի լեզվի միջազգային օր է հռչակում։
