Սուրբ Ծննդյան նախօրեին Հռոմի պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսը քրիստոնյաներին կոչ է արել Սուրբ Ծնունդը չշփոթել սպառողականության հետ, այլ նշել Քրիստոսի ծնունդը՝ կիսվելով նրանց հետ, ովքեր միայնակ են և կարիքի մեջ են:
Վատիկանի Առաքելական պալատի պատուհանից դիմելով Սուրբ Պետրոսի հրապարակում հավաքվածներին, Ֆրանցիսկոսը շնորհավորել է «ջերմությամբ, կապվածությամբ և չափավորությամբ» լի տոնի առթիվ:
Սրբազան քահանայապետը հավատացյալներին խորհուրդ է տվել զերծ մնալ ավելորդություններից և հիշեցրել է աշխարհով մեկ շարունակվող զինված հակամարտությունները։
