Ռուսաստանը և Հայաստանը խրվել են երկկողմ հարաբերությունների հեռակա պարզաբանման ձևաչափում։ Պետությունների ղեկավարները կապի մեջ չեն, սակայն երկու երկրների ներկայացուցիչները պարբերաբար փոխանակվում են մեղադրանքներով։ Հայաստանի վարչապետ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանը լրատվամիջոցներով ազդանշաններ է ուղարկում, որ Երևանն անվտանգության ոլորտում Ռուսաստանին փոխարինող է փնտրում։ Մոսկվան փորձում է տարբեր ձևերով, բայց ոչ Հայաստանի իշխանությունների հետ երկխոսությամբ բացատրել, որ իրեն այլընտրանք չկա։ Այս մասին գրում է «Կոմերսանտը»։

Վերջին շրջանում շփումները  տեղի են ունենում  երկու երկրների ԱԳՆ-ներ դեսպանների կանչման տեսքով՝ ՌԴ դեսպան Սերգեյ Կոպիրկինին ՀՀ ԱԳՆ, իսկ, Ռուսաստանում Հայաստանի գործերի ժամանակավոր հավատարմատարին համապատասխանաբար, ՌԴ ԱԳՆ։
