Որոշ բնագավառներում, երբ սկսում է ավելանալ քանակը, երբեմն վատանում է որակը: Նման դեպքերում հարկ է հիշել «Պարկինսոնի օրենքի» մասին: Ըստ Սիրիլ Նորքոթ Պարկինսոնի կողմից ձևակերպած երգիծական օրենքի՝ «Աշխատանքը կատարվում է այնքան ժամանակում, որքան հատկացված է դրա կատարման համար»:
«Պարկինսոնի օրենքը» հեղինակի կողմից առաջին անգամ ներկայացվել է 1955թ. բրիտանական «The Economist» ամսագրում տպագրված հոդվածում, հետագայում, սակայն, օրենքը հրատարակվել է հեղինակի այլ հոդվածների հետ:

Պարկինսոնի (ոչ մի կապ չունի նույն անունն ունեցող հիվանդության հետ) օրենքն ասում է, թե որքան ձեռնարկությունը մեծանում է, այնքան ավելի հաճախ է վարձում անընդունակ ու բարձր վարձատրվող աշխատակիցների, որովհետև այնտեղ աշխատողները ցանկանում են խուսափել մրցակցությունից։ Հակառակորդին չբախվելու լավագույն միջոցը ոչ որակյալ աշխատողներ ընդունելն է։ Պարադոքսն այն է, որ որքան խոշոր է ձեռնարկությունը, որքան երկար ժամանակ է աշխատում շուկայում, այնքան եռանդուն է հրաժարվում իր դինամիկ, ցածր վարձատրվող աշխատակիցներից՝ փոխարինելով նրանց իներտ ու անհամապատասխանորեն բարձր վարձատրվողներով։
Քաղցկեղը «պարկինսոնի օրենքի» դասական բնորոշում է, երբ բջջիջները սկսում են վերարտադրել իր մեջ կուտակած բացասական երևույթներով, նույնը կատարվում է այլ համակարգերում՝ լինի դա պետություն, հասարակություն կամ որևէ ձեռարկություն:

Համաձայն «Պարկինսոնի օրենքի»՝ աշխատանքը սպառում է դրա կատարմանը հատկացված ամբողջ ժամանակը։ Այսինքն՝ եթե գործատուն հանձնարարում է մեկ ամսում կատարել մի աշխատանք, որը կարելի է ավարտին հասցվել մեկ շաբաթում, ապա աշխատողը անպայման այն կանի մեկ ամսում՝ դժվարացնելով և երկարացնելով աշխատանքը կատարելու գործընթացը։ 
Ցանկացած համակարգ, ինչքան էլ այն առողջ ու կատարյալ լինի, իր մեջ ունի «Պարկինսոնի օրենքի» կիրառման վտանգ:
