Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության Անվտանգության խորհրդի ղեկավարի տեղակալ Դմիտրի Մեդվեդևը թելեգրամյան ալիքում հրապարակում է արել ռուս-վրացական «հնգօրյա պատերազմի» տարելիցի կապակցությամբ: Դրանում նա անալոգիա է արել վրաց-հարավօսական հակամարտությանը Ռուսաստանի մասնակցության և Ուկրաինայում ռուսական հատուկ ռազմական գործողության միջև:
Ինչպես գրում է kommersant.ru-ն, 2008 թվականին Ռուսաստանի նախագահի պաշտոնը զբաղեցրած Դմիտրի Մեդվեդևն էր, որ օգոստոսի 8-ին հայտարարեց Հարավային Օսիայի հակամարտության գոտում խաղաղության հաստատման գործողություն սկսելու մասին։
«Տհաս Սաակաշվիլիի (Վրաստանի նախկին նախագահ Միխայիլ Սահակաշվիլի) թիկունքում կանգնած էր կոլեկտիվ Արևմուտքը, որն արդեն այն ժամանակ փորձում էր լարել իրավիճակը Ռուսաստանի սահմանների անմիջական մերձակայքում։ Մեր զինված ուժերը թշնամուց պաշտպանեցին Աբխազիայում և Հարավային Օսիայում ապրող մեր ժողովրդին»,- գրել է նա։
Դմիտրի Մեդվեդևի խոսքով, 2008 թվականին «ԱՄՆ-ն ու նրա վասալները ակնհայտորեն փորձի պակաս ունեին»։ Սակայն այժմ, ինչպես կարծում է ՌԴ Անվտանգության խորհրդի փոխնախագահը, «նրանք կրկին հանցավոր պատերազմ են մղում ուրիշների ձեռքերով՝ փորձելով ջնջել Ռուսաստանին աշխարհի երեսից»։
«ՆԱՏՕ-ի ողջ համակարգը գործնականում բացահայտ պայքարում է մեր դեմ։ Մենք բավականաչափ ուժ ունենք հատուկ ռազմական գործողության բոլոր խնդիրները լուծելու համար։ Ինչպես 2008 թվականի օգոստոսին, մեր թշնամիները կջախջախվեն, և Ռուսաստանը խաղաղության կհասնի իր պայմաններով»,- հավելել է նա։
Միխեիլ Սաակաշվիլին Վրաստանի նախագահի պաշտոնը զբաղեցրել է երկու ժամկետ անընդմեջ 2004-2013 թվականներին: 2008 թվականի օգոստոսի 8-ին նա հրաման է տվել զորքեր մտցնել անջատված Հարավային Օսիայի տարածք։ Ի պատասխան՝ Ռուսաստանը ռազմական գործողություն սկսեց Վրաստանի դեմ, որը տևեց հինգ օր։
