Քրիստել Կանդելարիոն ոստիկաններին պատմել է, որ դստերը՝ Ջեյլինին տանը մենակ է թողել, իսկ ինքը 10 օրով հեռացել է։ Վերադառնալով տուն՝ 31-ամյա կինը երեխային մահացած է գտե։ Փորձագետները եզրակացրել են, որ աղջիկը մահացել է ջրազրկումից։
Դա առաջին դեպքը չի եղել, երբ Կանդելարիոն մենակ է թողել իր երեխային։ Նրա հարևանը պատմել է, որ կինը խնդրել էր իրեն և իր կնոջը խնամել Ջեյլինին, սակայն դստերն իրենց մոտ էր թողել սպասվածից շատ ավելի երկար։ Բացի այդ, Քրիստելը չի պատասխանել իրենց զանգերին կամ «ներողություն խնդրել» այն բանի համար, որ դեռ չի վերցրել իր աղջկան։
Այս պահին ամերիկուհին գտնվում է կալանքի տակ եւ սպասում է դատարանի որոշմանը։
