ՀՀ կառավարությունը հավանություն տվեց «Ակադեմիական քաղաք» հիմնադրամ ստեղծելու որոշման նախագծին։
ԿԳՄՍ նախարար Ժաննա Անդրեասյանը տեղեկացրեց, որ ակադեմիական քաղաքի միջոցով հասցեագրելու են կրթության ռազմավարությամբ սահմանված մի շարք կարևոր թիրախների ապահովումը, որոնցից են միջազգային վարկանիշային աղյուսակների լավագույն 500-յակների մեջ առնվազն 4 բուհ ունենալը, օտարերկրյա ուսանողների թիվն առնվազն կրկնապատկելը՝ բարձրացնելով բարձրագույն կրթական համակարգի միջազգային հեղինակությունը:
Ըստ նախարարի` այն տարածքները, որոնք նախնական ընտրված են, հարում են միջպետական մայրուղիներին, նաև երրորդ կլաստերը, որն ամենամեծն է, 425 հա տարածք է զբաղեցնում, Երևանի 17-րդ թաղամասին կից հատվածում է, այդպիսով երկաթգիծ ունենալու հնարավորություն է ստեղծվում։
«Մոտ 44 հազար մարդ պետք է տեղավորվի այս տարածքներում․ խոսքը թե ուսանողների, թե դասախոսական կազմի, գիտնականների մասին է։ Արված են նախնական կանխատեսումները։
Նման մեծածավալ ծրագրի իրականացումը պահանջում է իրականացնող կառույցի առկայություն, որը ներգրավված կլինի ծրագրի ողջ շրջափուլում՝ նախապատրաստումից մինչև բուն իրականացման գործընթաց, այնուհետ ակադեմիական քաղաքի կառավարում, որովհետև ստեղծված ենթակառուցվածքները նախատեսում են նաև վարչարարության և կառավարման մի ամբողջ համակարգ»։
ՀՀ վարչապետ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանն էլ կարևորեց ակադեմիական քաղաքի տեղակայումը՝ շեշտելով, որ բազմաթիվ քննարկումներից հետո որոշվել է քաղաքը տեղակայել Երևանի, Կոտայքի և Արագածոտնի հատման տեղում։ Նա նշեց, որ հաջողվեց Երևանի մոտակայքում գտնել 300 հա տարածք, որը սեփականաշնորհված չէր, և հիմա այն կամրակցվի ակադեմիական քաղաքին։
