ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղար Էնթոնի Բլինքենը հեռախոսազրույց է ունեցել Ռուսաստանի արտաքին գործերի նախարար Սերգեյ Լավրովի հետ։ Ինչպես հաղորդում է ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարության կայքը, հեռախոսազրույցի ընթացքում Բլինքենը լուրջ մտահոգություն է հայտնել ամերիկացի լրագրողի ձերբակալման առնչությամբ։
Նշվում է, որ Բլինքենը կոչ է արել անհապաղ ազատ արձակել նրան։
Բլինքենը նաև կոչ է արել ազատ արձակել սխալմամբ ձերբակալված ԱՄՆ քաղաքացի Փոլ Ուելանին։ Բլինքենն ու Լավրովը նաև քննարկել են դիվանագիտական առաքելությունների աշխատանքի համար համապատասխան միջավայրի ստեղծման կարևորությունը։
Հեռախոսազրույցի վերաբերյալ հաղորդագրություն է տարածել նաև Ռուսաստանի արտաքին գործերի նախարարությունը։ Նշվում է, որ լրտեսության մեջ կասկածվող ԱՄՆ քաղաքացի Է․ Գերշկովիչի ձերբակալման համատեքստում Սերգեյ Լավրովը Բլինքենի ուշադրությունն է հրավիրել այն հանգամանքի վրա, որ անհրաժեշտ է հարգել Ռուսաստանի իշխանությունների որոշումները, որոնք ընդունվում են Ռուսաստանի օրենսդրությանը և միջազգային պարտավորություններին համապատասխան։ Լավրովն անընդունելի է համարել Վաշինգտոնի պաշտոնական դեմքերի և արևմտյան լրատվամիջոցների ստեղծած աժիոտաժը՝ հարցին քաղաքական երանգ տալու ակնհայտ միտումով։
Լավրովը հատուկ ընդգծել է, որ Գերշկովիչը ձերբակալվել է պետական գաղտնի տեղեկություններ ստանալու փորձի ժամանակ՝ թաքնվելով լրագրողի կարգավիճակի տակ։ Լավրովը նաև նշել է, որ ԱՄՆ ձերբակալված քաղաքացու ճակատագիրը կորոշի դատարանը։
ՌԴ ԱԳՆ-ն հավելում է, որ հեռախոսազրույցի ընթացքում կողմերը քննարկել են նաև երկկողմ օրակարգի ակտուալ հարցեր։
Մարտի 30-ին հայտնի դարձավ, որ Ռուսաստանի Անվտանգության դաշնային ծառայությունը Եկատերինբուրգում ձերբակալել է The Wall Street Journal ամերիկյան թերթի լրագրող Էվան Գերշկովիչին, որը հավատարմագրված էր ՌԴ ԱԳՆ-ում։ Ըստ գերատեսչության՝ Գերշկովիչը ԱՄՆ-ի հանձնարարությամբ «զբաղվել Է ռուսական ռազմարդյունաբերական համալիրի ձեռնարկություններից մեկի մասին տեղեկություններ հավաքելով, որոնք պետական գաղտնիք են հանդիսանում»։
