Թուրքիայում տեղի ունեցած կրկնակի երկրաշարժը վիթխարի մասշտաբների աղետ է, 3000-ից ավել վնասված շենքերով, 1000-ից ավել (իսկ գուցե շատ ավելի) զոհերով, և 10000-ին մոտեցող վիրավորներով, իր մասշտաբներով այն համադրելի է 34 տարի առաջ Հայաստանի հյուսիսը պատուհասած աղետալի երկրաշարժի հետ:
 
Այս մասշտաբի ավերածությունները և կորուստները, բացի մարդկային ողբերգությունից, նաև անուղղակի ցուցիչ են երկրում առկա լուրջ խնդիրների՝ կոռուպցիա, ոչ էֆֆեկտիվ կառավարում, սեյսմիկ շինարարության ստանդարտների անտեսում: Մեզ համար նրանք պետք է ցավոտ հիշեցում լինեն, որ նույն խնդիրները մեզ մոտ նույնպես կան, նույն ագահության և արագ շահույթի մոլուցքով արված անորակ շինարարությունը մի օր կարող է մեզ մոտ էլ նորից մարդկային ողբերգության պատճառ դառնալ, մանավանդ մեր տարածաշրջանում, որտեղ ոչ մի երկիր կամ քաղաք երաշխավորված չեն երկրաշարժի աղետից:
 
Այս երկրաշարժը, նաև որքան էլ աղետալի, պահանջում է մեզնից արդեն հիմա հաշվարկել նրա հեռագնա հետևանքները, և առավելագույնս արդյունավետ օգտագործել դրանք մեր իսկ երկրի անվտանգության բարձրացման համար: Մինչ այդ, ցավակցություն եմ հայտնում նրանից տուժած անմեղ մարդկանց, մասնավորապես, մեր հայրենակիցներին, որոնք քիչ չեն թե Թուրքիայի, և թե Սիրիայի հարակից տարածքներում:
