Կոնգրեսի Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի անդամները քվեարկության երեք փուլով չեն կարողացել խոսնակ ընտրել: Այս մասին հաղորդում է Associated Press գործակալությունը։
Ներկայացուցիչների պալատում Հանրապետական կուսակցության առաջնորդ Քևին Մաքքարթին քվեարկության երկու փուլերի ընթացքում ստացել է 203 ձայն՝ զիջելով դեմոկրատական կուսակցության թեկնածու Հաքիմ Ջեֆրիսին, ով ստացել է 212 ձայն։
435 անդամից բաղկացած Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի խոսնակ դառնալու համար Մաքքարթիին անհրաժեշտ Էր ստանալ առնվազն 218 ձայն: Քվեարկության երրորդ փուլում Մաքքարթին կորցրեց իր կուսակիցներից 20-ի ձայները՝ ստանալով 202 ձայն: Ընտրությունները կշարունակվեն այնքան ժամանակ, մինչև թեկնածուներից որևէ մեկը չհավաքի բավարար թվով ձայներ։
Վերջին հարյուր տարվա ընթացքում առաջին անգամ չի հաջողվել մեկ փուլով Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի նախագահ ընտրել: Վերջին անգամ խոսնակի ընտրությունն անցկացվել է մի քանի փուլով 1923 թվականին:
Կալիֆորնիան ներկայացնող հանրապետական Քևին Մաքքարթին նոյեմբերին կուսակցության ժողովի ընթացքում ստացել էր օրենսդիրների մեծամասնության աջակցությունը խոսնակի պաշտոնում առաջադրվելու համար:
57-ամյա քաղաքական գործիչը երկրորդ անգամ է հավակնում Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի խոսնակի պաշտոնին։ ԱՄՆ-ում տեղի ունեցած միջանկյալ ընտրությունների արդյունքներով Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի վերահսկողությունը, ձայների չնչին տարբերությամբ, անցել է հանրապետականներին. նրանք Կոնգրեսի Ստորին պալատում ունեն 222 աթոռ, իսկ դեմոկրատները՝ 213:
Սենատում դեմոկրատները պահպանել են մեծամասնությունը: Ի դեպ, Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի խոսնակ Նենսի Փելոսին ավելի վաղ հայտարարել էր, որ կլքի Ներկայացուցիչների պալատում դեմոկրատների առաջնորդի պաշտոնը։
