ԱՄՆ-ն Ռուսաստանին այլընտրանքային տարբերակներ է առաջարկում բանտարկյալների փոխանակման հարցում «առաջ շարժվելու» համար, հինգշաբթի հայտարարել է Սպիտակ տան մամուլի քարտուղար Կարին Ժան Պիերը:

«Ես կարող եմ ձեզ տեղեկացնել, որ վերջին շաբաթներին, չնայած Ռուսաստանի հետ բարեխիղճ բանակցությունների բացակայությանը, ԱՄՆ կառավարությունն առաջարկել է այլընտրանքային տարբերակներ՝ առաջ շարժվելու համար (բանտարկյալների շուրջ երկխոսության հարցում) ռուսական կողմի հետ բոլոր հասանելի ուղիներով», - ասել է Ժան Պիերը կանոնավոր ճեպազրույցի ժամանակ:

Նա նաև հաստատել է, որ ԱՄՆ դիվանագետներն այցելել են Ռուսաստանում դատապարտված բասկետբոլիստուհի Բրիթնի Գրայներին։ Ժան Պիերի խոսքով՝ նրա, ինչպես նաեւ դատապարտված ամերիկացի այլ քաղաքացիների ազատ արձակումը շարունակում է մնալ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Ջո Բայդենի վարչակազմի գլխավոր առաջնահերթություններից մեկը:

ԱՄՆ վարչակազմը հայտարարում է, որ ռուսական իշխանություններին «լուրջ» առաջարկ է արել, սակայն համաձայնություն չի ստացել։ Գործարքը, Վաշինգտոնի մտահղացումներով, պետք է հանգեցնի Գրայների եւ Փոլ Ուիլանի հայրենիք վերադարձին․ վերջինս 16 տարվա ազատազրկման է դատապարտվել լրտեսության համար:

Թե ինչ է առաջարկվում Ռուսաստանին դրա դիմաց, ամերիկյան իշխանությունները չեն ճշտում։ ԶԼՄ-ների տվյալներով՝ խոսքը գործարար Վիկտոր Բուտին ազատ արձակելու մասին է, որը դատապարտվել է ԱՄՆ-ում՝ ամերիկացիներին սպանելու նպատակով դավադրություն նախապատրաստելու եւ ահաբեկչությանը նյութական աջակցություն ցուցաբերելու համար: Ռուսաստանցին պնդում է իր անմեղությունը։ Կրեմլը, ըստ ԶԼՄ-ների, իբր եւս մեկ հայրենակից է պահանջել, որպեսզի իրականացվի «երկուսըէ երկուսի դիմաց» հավասարության բանաձեւով փոխանակում։
