Ավետիք Չալաբյանի պաշտպանական խումբը դեռևս մայիսի 25-ին Ա. Չալաբյանի նկատմամբ կիրառված խափանման միջոցի փոփոխության վերաբերյալ՝ ՀՀ ԱԺ պատգամավորներ Սեյրան Օհանյանի, Իշխան Սաղաթելյանի, Էլինար Վարդանյանի, Հայկ Մամիջանյանի, Տիգրան Աբրահամյանի, ՀՀ նախկին փոխվարչապետ Վաչե Գաբրիելյանի և «Արար» հիմնադրամի երաշխավորություններով դիմել էր ՀՀ գլխավոր դատախազություն։ Օրերս դատախազը մերժեց Չալաբյանի նկատմամբ կիրառված խափանման միջոցի փոփոխության վերաբերյալ երաշխավորությունները:

Հայաստանի Գերագույն խորհրդի, Հայաստանի Ազգային ժողովի երկրորդ և երրորդ գումարումների պատգամավոր, քաղաքական գործիչ Հրանտ Խաչատրյանը համարում է, որ Չալաբյանին զուտ քաղաքական դրդապատճառով են կալանավորել.

«Չալաբյանը հայակենտրոն մտածողություն ունեցող և հայանպաստ գործով զբաղվող եզակի անձնավորություններից մեկն է, և իր վերլուծություններն ու գործողությունները տրամագծորեն հակառակ են Հայաստանի իշխանությունների ներկա վարքագծին։ Քաղաքականություն չեմ ասում, քանի որ Հայաստանի իշխանությունները ինքնուրույն քաղաքականություն չեն վարում, նրանք ավելի շատ փորձում են երկու լարի վրա խաղալ, բայց դա էլ չի ստացվում որովհետև իրենց մոտ պատեհապաշտություն է ավելի շատ։ Ունեն մտքներում դրված նպատակ՝ գնացքից թռչելը ներկայիս պայմաններում, բայց ոչ մի ինքնուրույն հաշվարկ, ռեսուրսների գնահատում, առավել ևս ռեսուրսների ավելացման խնդիր չեն դնում։ Իսկ Չալաբյանը դա վաղուց մտածված, շարադրած, ծրագրերի վերածած իրականացնում էր։

Ես նույնիսկ Չալաբյանին անձնապես ծանոթ չեմ, թեթև նամակագրություն է եղել իմ և իր միջև, բայց ես հետևել եմ իր գործունեությանը և միշտ մտածել եմ, որ առիթի դեպքում պետք է անպայման նրա հետ համագործակցել, իսկ այժմ առիթ եղավ, որ պետք է նրան սատարել և օգնել այս վիճակում, և ես չզլացա։ Խորհուրդ կտամ մյուսներին էլ՝ չզլանալ և սատարել Չալաբյանին։ Հենց վերադարձավ, անպայման ծանոթանալու եմ իր հետ»։
