ԲՀԿ առաջնորդ Գագիկ Ծառուկյանը հայտարարել է մրցույթ՝ Հայաստան աշխարհի բարձունքում Հիսուս Քրիստոսի արձանը կառուցելու համար: Միայն քանդակի բարձրությունը հասնելու է 33 մետրի (հենց այդքան ապրեց Քրիստոսը)։ Հեղինակի առաջարկած այլ լուծումների դեպքում ու պատվանդանով ընդհանուր բարձրությունը կարող է կրկնակի կամ եռակի անգամ ավել լինել: 

Ծառուկյանի այս նախաձեռնությունը մեծ ոգևորություն առաջացրեց հանրության շրջանում, կարծիքները միանշանակ չէին:

Շուտով արձագանք եղավ Հայաստանի Ճարտարապետների միության նախագահ Մկրտիչ Մինասյանի կողմից.

«Անկախ նրանից՝ մենք քրիստոնյա առաջին ժողովո՞ւրդն ենք, թե՞ ոչ, չկա դրա ո՛չ անհրաժեշտությունը և ո՛չ էլ պարտավորվածությունը: Դարերով եկող մեր եկեղեցիներն արդեն խորհրդանշում են, որ մենք առաջին քրիստոնյա ազգն ենք: Փոխանակ պահենք այդ եկեղեցիները, վերականգնենք դրանք ու ներկայացնենք աշխարհին, ցույց ենք տալու Հիսուս Քրիստոսի մի մեծ արձա՞ն: Պետությունը պետք է դրա անհրաժեշտությունը տեսնի, նոր որոշում կայացնի»:

Այսինքն, եթե արձանը տեղադրելու որոշումը պետությունը կայացներ, այլ ոչ թե Ծառուկյանը, «աշխարհին Հիսուս Քրիստոսի մի մեծ արձան ցույց տալը» Մինասյանի համար նորմալ կլիներ:

Մարտի 23-ին Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնում գումարվեց Գերագույն հոգևոր խորհրդի հայաստանյան անդամների ժողով, որի ընթացքում ի թիվս այլ հարցերի քննարկվեց նաև Գագիկ Ծառուկյանի կողմից Հայաստանում Հիսուս Քրիստոսի արձան կառուցելու նախաձեռնությունը: Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնի տեղեկատվական կենտրոնի տարածած հաղորդագրության մեջ մասնավորապես ասվում էր.

«Գերագույն հոգևոր խորհուրդը բարձրորեն գնահատում է տիար Գագիկ Ծառուկյանի եկեղեցաշինական անուրանալի ծառայությունները, որոնցով նա մեծապես նպաստել է Եկեղեցու հոգևոր-քարոզչական առաքելության արդյունավորմանը: Միաժամանակ Եկեղեցին ընդունելի չի համարում մեր Տիրոջ՝ Հիսուս Քրիստոսի արձանի տեղադրումը՝ նկատի առնելով, որ այն հարիր չէ Հայ Եկեղեցու դարավոր պատկերագրական և պաշտամունքային ավանդույթին»։ 

Հետաքրքիր է՝ եթե Ծառուկյանի առաջարկած նախագիծը «հակասում է Հայաստանյայց Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցու ավանդույթին», ինչպե՞ս է ստացվել, որ Մեծամորի Սուրբ Ղազար եկեղեցում ավելի քան 20 տարի վեր է հառնում Հիսուս Քրիստոսի արձանը, անմիջապես Ջավախքի Սուրբ Խաչ եկեղեցու բակում կանգնեցված է արքեպիսկոպոս Կարապետ Բագրատունու արձանը, «Օշականի Սուրբ Մեսրոպ Մաշտոց եկեղեցի այցելող հազարավոր հայերին ու օտարերկրացիներին լուռ ու անխոս հայաացքով դիմավորում ու ճանապարհում են հայ ժողովրդի ինքության ու քրիստոնեության պահպանման գործում մեծ ներդրում ունեցած հայոց մեծերի՝ Մեսրոպ Մաշտոցի ու Մխիթար Գոշի հուշակոթողները», Աշտարակ քաղաքի կենտրոնում 2007 թվականին տեղադրվել է 1843-1857թթ. Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոս եղած Ներսես Ե Աշտարակեցու 5 մետրանոց արձանը, իսկ ահա Վազգեն Ա Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոսի արձաններն էլ տեղադրվել են Սևանի Վազգենյան հոգևոր դպրոցի բակում և Էջմիածին քաղաքի Մայր տաճարի հարևանությամբ գտնվող զբոսայգում... շարքը դեռ կարելի է երկար շարունակել:
