Սերժ Թանկյանը աշխարհահռչակ System of A Down ալտերնատիվ մետալ-ռոք խմբի և Axis of Justice («Արդարության առանցք») հասարակական կազմակերպության հիմնադիրն է։ Ճանաչվել է աշխարհի 26-րդ լավագույն մեթալ վոկալիստ։

Սերժ Թանկյանը ծնվել է 1967թ. Բեյրութում, հայկական ընտանիքում։

Նրա հայրը` Խաչատուր Թանկյանը, եւս երաժիշտ է։ Նա թողարկել է «Ինչպե՞ս մոռանանք»  սկավառակը, որը կազմված է 11 հայկական ժողովրդական երգերից:

Իր ստեղծագործական գործունեությունը Սերժ Թանկյանը սկսել է 90-ական թվականների սկզբին, երբ հանդիպել  է Դարոն Մալաքյանի հետ, որի հետ էլ որոշել են նոր ռոք խումբ ստեղծել։

Սերժն ունի իր սեփական ձայնագրման ստուդիան, որը կոչվում է Serjical Strike։ Թանկյանը հանդես է գալիս անարդարությունն ու դաժանությունը դատապարտող բազմաթիվ ելույթներով։ Նա համագործակցելով Տոմ Մորելլոյի հետ՝ ստեղծել է Axis Of Justice կազմակերպությունը, որի նպատակն է աջակցել երիտասարդներին պաշտպանելու իրենց իրավունքները քաղաքականության ոլորտում։ Նրանք կազմակերպել են բազմաթիվ բարեգործական արշավներ։ Նրանք նաև մեծ ջանքեր են գործադրում, որպեսզի ստիպեն Միացյալ Նահանգներին և Թուրքիային ճանաչել և ընդունել Հայոց Ցեղասպանությունը։
