Գեղարքունիքի մարզի Կարմիրգյուղ համայնքի տարածքում գտնվող Քանագեղի հնավայրում (հուշարձանը թվագրվում է Ք.ա. 15-14 – Ք.ա. 7-6 դարերով) անցկացվող պեղումների ժամանակ դամբարաններից հայտնաբերվել են անտիկ ժամանակաշրջանի բրոնզե մատանիներ, ապարանջանի մաս, ուլունքներ, «Պատմամշակութային արգելոց-թանգարանների և պատմական միջավայրի պահպանության ծառայություն» ՊՈԱԿ-ից հայտնում են, որ պեղումների ղեկավար, ՊՈԱԿ-ի գիտնական քարտուղար, պատմական գիտությունների դոկտոր, պրոֆեսոր Աշոտ Փիլիպոսյանն ասում է, որ տարիների ընթացքում ամենայն հավանականությամբ դամբարանախցից զգալի քանակությամբ պերճանքի առարկաներ և զարդեր են տարվել։ 

«Դամբարանի վերգետնյա մասը վնասված է, փորձել են սալերը տեղաշարժել, բայց հավանաբար ծանրության պատճառով չեն կարողացել։ Փորձել են նաև մտնել դամբարանախցի մեջ։ Գանձախույզները մասամբ ավերել են մի քանի դամբարաններ՝ թշնամաբար վերաբերվելով մեր նախնիների պատմամշակութային ժառանգությանը»,- ասում է Փիլիպոսյանը։

Նրա խոսքով՝ ավելորդ հողակույտը հեռացնելուց հետո պարզ է դարձել, որ դամբարանը շուրջ 14 մետր տրամագծով կրոմլեխ (բրոնզեդարյան կառույցի տեսակ) ունի։ Պեղումների ղեկավարի կարծիքով՝ հավանաբար դամբարանախցի մեջ անտիկ դարաշրջանում նորից թաղում են արել ու հանգուցյալի հետ խեցեղեն դրել։ Թաղումը եղել է խմբային. դամբարանի տերը պառկած էր առանձին՝ մեջքի վրա և կծկված ոտքերով, իսկ ոտքերի մոտ 7-8 մարդու կմախքներ կային։

«Միանշանակ խմբային թաղում է եղել, ինչը վկայում է Սևանի ավազանում ժամանակին կատարված զոհաբերությունների մասին»,- նշում է պեղումների ղեկավարը։

Նախորդ տարիներին Քանագեղից հայտնաբերված գտածոները պահվում են «Էրեբունի» պատմահնագիտական արգելոց-թանգարանի ֆոնդում։  Այս պեղումներից գտնված հնագիտական նյութը նույնպես կհանձնվի «Էրեբունի» թանգարանին։ Հնամարդաբանական նյութը կուսումնասիրի արշավախմբի անդամ, ՊՈԱԿ-ի հնամարդաբան Հասմիկ Սիմոնյանը։ Պեղումները կշարունակվեն նաև հեկող տարի։  

Քանագեղի հնավայրի պեղումների արշավախմբի կազմում են «Պատմամշակութային արգելոց-թանգարանների և պատմական միջավայրի պահպանության ծառայություն» ՊՈԱԿ-ի աշխատակիցներ Հասմիկ Սիմոնյանը, Տիգրան Զաքյանը, Լուսինե Ալեքսանյանը, Հայաստանի պատմության թանգարանի ու Հնագիտության և ազգագրության ինստիտուտի գիտաշխատող, պատմական գիտությունների թեկնածու Բեն Վարդանյանը։ Պեղումների ընթացքին պարբերաբար ծանոթացել է ՊՈԱԿ-ի տնօրենի պարտականությունները կատարող Արմեն Հովհաննիսյանը։

Պեղումները կատարվել են ՀՀ ԿԳՄՍ նախարարության գիտության կոմիտեի և «Էրեբունի» պատմահնագիտական արգելոց-թանգարանի՝ ենթակառուցվածքի պահպանման ու զարգացման ծրագրի ֆինանսական աջակցությամբ։

1980-ական թվականներին հուշարձանում պեղումներ է կատարել անվանի հնագետ Գրիգոր Արեշյանը, 1998-2004-ին հնավայրում աշխատել է Աշոտ Փիլիպոսյանը։
