Վերջին տարիներին Հայաստանում գրանցվում է սեռով պայմանավորված աբորտների նվազման միտում:

Ըստ ԱՀԿ-ի` աղջիկ/տղա նորածինների հարաբերակցությունը պետք է լինի 100/106: Հայաստանում 2008-ից 2012 թվականներին հարաբերակցությունը եղել է 100/115: 2019 և 2020 թվականներին նկատվել է դրական միտում սեռով պայմանավորված աբորտների նվազման առումով. հարաբերակցությունը կազմել է 100/110, իսկ 2021 թվականի առաջին վեց ամսվա ցուցանիշը 100/108 Է: Այս մասին հայտնում են Առողջապահության նախարարությունից: 

Սեռով պայմանավորված` սելեկտիվ աբորտների իրականացման հիմքում մեծամասամբ ընկած է ազգային մտածելակերպում արմատացած` տղա երեխա ունենալու ցանկությունը, որը պայմանավորված է տոհմը շարունակելու անհրաժեշտությամբ, ժառանգ ունենալու ցանկությամբ և այլն:

Բնակչության վերարտադրման ցուցանիշների շեղումները առաջացնում են դեմոգրաֆիկ լուրջ շեղումներ, որոնցից բխում են ազգագրական, սոցիալական և մի շարք այլ հիմնախնդիրներ։
Հիմնախնդրի հաղթահարման կարևոր քայլերից է ոչ միայն օրենսդրաիրավական դաշտի կարգավորումն ու հստակեցումը, այլև աղջիկ երեխայի, կնոջ դերի ու նշանակության բարձրացումը թե՛ ընտանիքում, թե՛ հասարակության ազգային մտածելակերպում: Կրթական-տեղեկատվական խորհրդատվության տրամադրումը, բարոյահոգեբանական աջակցությունը կնպաստեն կնոջ կոմից սեփական անձի արժևորմանը և գնահատմանը:

Գիտակցելով հարցի կարևորությունը` շահագրգիռ գերատեսչությունների, միջազգային կազմակերպությունների հետ համատեղ մշակվել և իրականացվել են բազմաթիվ միջոցառումներ, ուղղված ինչպես բժշկական գործելակերպի փոփոխությանը, այդպես էլ հասարակության մեջ այս հարցի շուրջ կարծրատիպերի վերացմանը:
