Թուրքիան դիմել է ԱՄՆ-ին 40 F-16 կործանիչ գնելու, ինչպես նաև Անկարայում գտնվող մոտ 80 ամերիկյան կործանիչի մոդեռնիզացման խնդրանքով:
Ինչպես հաղորդում է Reuters գործակալությունը՝ հղում անելով իր աղբյուրներին, գործարքը, որը գնահատվում է միլիարդավոր դոլարներով, դեռևս ուսումնասիրվում է Պետքարտուղարության և իրավասու կառավարական գերատեսչության կողմից, որն ընդգրկված է Պենտագոնի կազմում: Այն պատասխանատու է ռազմական տեխնիկայի և զենքի արտասահմանյան մատակարարումների համար:
Գործակալությունը հիշեցնում է, որ այդ կառույցի կողմից հաստատվելու դեպքում գործարքը կարող է արգելափակել Կոնգրեսը: Հանրապետականները և դեմոկրատները վաշինգտոնյան վարչակազմին կոչ են անում ճնշում գործադրել Անկարայի վրա՝ կապված ռուսական զենիթահրթիռային համակարգերի ձեռք բերման պառճառով:
