Վրաստանի նախկին նախագահ Միխեիլ Սաակաշվիլին, որն Ուկրաինայում բարեփոխումների ազգային խորհրդի գործադիր կոմիտեի ղեկավարն է, ասել է, որ հոկտեմբերի 2-ին կվերադառնա Թբիլիսի: Այդ օրը երկրում կանցկացվեն ՏԻՄ ընտրություններ:

«Իհարկե, ինչպես ասացի, ես հոկտեմբերի 2-ի երեկոյի տոմս եմ վերցրել, որպեսզի ձեզ հետ լինեմ Թբիլիսիում և պաշտպանեմ ձեր կամարտահայտումը, ինչպես նաև մասնակցեմ Վրաստանը փրկելուն», - ասել է Սաակաշվիլին ֆեյսբուքյան տեսաուղերձում:

Սեպտեմբերի 6-ին Սաակաշվիլին հայտարարել էր, որ հայրենիք է գալու հոկտեմբերի 2-ին նշանակված ընտրություններին ընդառաջ: Ըստ քաղաքական գործչի, եթե անգամ վրացական իշխանությունները նրան բանտարկեն, «վրաց ժողովուրդը կազատագրի» իրենց նախկին նախագահին:

Սաակաշվիլին Վրաստանի նախագահն էր 2004 թվականի հունվարից մինչև 2013 թվականի նոյեմբեր: 2013 թվականին նա լքել է երկիրը նախագահական լիազորությունների ավարտից մի քանի օր առաջ: Դրանից անմիջապես հետո նրա դեմ հարուցվել է չորս քրեական գործ, որոնցից երկուսով արդեն կան վճիռներ: 2018 թվականի հունվարին Թբիլիսիի քաղաքային դատարանը Սաակաշվիլիին հեռակա կարգով դատապարտել է երեք տարվա ազատազրկման 2006 թվականին Վրաստանի Միացյալ բանկի աշխատակից Սանդրո Գիրգվլիանիի սպանության համար: 2018 թվականի հունիսի 28-ին դատարանը նրան դատապարտել է վեց տարվա ազատազրկման՝ 2005 թվականին պատգամավոր Վալերի Գելաշվիլիի ծեծի գործով:
