Ջրի սակավությունն ու երաշտը այն մասշտաբի վնաս կհասցնեն, որը համադրելի կլինի COVID-19-ի համավարակի հետ, ընդ որում՝ ռիսկերը արագորեն կաճեն գլոբալ ջերմաստիճանի բարձրացմանը զուգընթաց, հայտնում է Thomson Reuters Foundation-ը:

«Երաշտը կարող է վերածվել հաջորդ համավարակի, եւ չկա դրա բուժման պատվաստանյութ»,- ՄԱԿ-ի զեկույցի հրապարակումից առաջ կայացած մամուլի ասուլիսում հայտարարել է աղետների ռիսկի նվազեցման հարցով ՄԱԿ-ի հատուկ ներկայացուցիչ Մամի Միզուտորին:

Ըստ զեկույցի՝ երաշտները 1998-2017թթ․ արդեն հանգեցրել են առնվազն 124 միլիարդ դոլարի տնտեսական կորուստների եւ առնչվել են ավելի քան 1,5 միլիարդ մարդու:

Բայց նույնիսկ այս թվերը, նրա խոսքով, «ամենայն հավանականությամբ, խիստ թերագնահատված են»:

ՄԱԿ-ի զեկույցում ասվում է, որ գլոբալ տաքացումը սաստկացրել է երաշտները Եվրոպայի հարավում եւ Աֆրիկայի արեւմուտքում: Միզուտորիի խոսքով՝ զոհերի թիվը «կտրուկ կաճի», եթե աշխարհը քայլեր չձեռնարկի:

Մոտ 130 երկրներ բարձր արտանետումների դեպքում այս հարյուրամյակում կարող են ենթարկվել երաշտի մեծ վտանգի: Եւս 23 երկրներ կբախվեն ջրի պակասի հետ՝ բնակչության աճի հետեւանքով, ընդ որում՝ 38 երկրներ կտուժեն երկու խնդիրներից էլ:

Միզուտորիի խոսքով՝ երաշտը, վիրուսի նման, երկար է տեւում, ունի լայն աշխարհագրական ընդգրկում եւ ուղղակիորեն է վնաս պատճառում: «Այն պարենային անվտանգության եւ սննդամթերքի գների բարձրացման պատճառով կարող է անուղղակիորեն ազդել այն երկրների վրա, որոնք իրականում երաշտ չեն ունենում»,- ասել է նա:

ՄԱԿ-ը ավելի հաճախակի եւ ուժեղ երաշտներ է ակնկալում Աֆրիկայի, Կենտրոնական եւ Հարավային Ամերիկայի, Կենտրոնական Ասիայի, Ավստրալիայի հարավի, Հարավային Եվրոպայի, Մեքսիկայի եւ ԱՄՆ-ի մեծ մասում:
