Гигиена полости рта помогает снизить риск смерти от коронавирусной инфекции COVID-19, как выяснила международная группа исследователей из Великобритании, Южной Африки и США.
Как сообщается в пресс-релизе на EurekAlert!, появляется все больше доказательств, что коронавирус изначально поражает кровеносные сосуды в легких и лишь потом переходит в дыхательные пути. При этом высокие концентрации SARS-CoV-2 в слюне и периодонтит (воспаление периодонта) связаны с повышенным риском смерти от инфекции. Именно поэтому специалисты советуют тщательно соблюдать гигиену полости рта, чтобы снизить риск заболеваний десен и образование зубного налета.
Заболевание десен способствует проникновению патогенов в кровоток. Перемещаясь из кровеносных сосудов в деснах, вирус будет проходить через шейные и грудные вены, достигая сердца, после чего попадет в легочные артерии и мелкие сосуды.
По словам ученых, эффективными могут быть такие меры, как чистка зубов, межзубная чистка для избавления от налета, а также использование специальных жидкостей или даже соленой воды для полоскания рта.
