Միացյալ Նահանգների նախագահ Ջո Բայդենը հնարավորություն ունի այս ամիս՝ Օսմանյան կայսրությունում հայերի զանգվածային կոտորածից շուրջ մեկ դար անց կատարվածը կոչել ճշգրիտ եզրույթով՝ ցեղասպանություն: Այս մասին ասվում է Los Angeles Times-ի խմբագրականում:

«Զարմանալի է, որ հայերի հետ տեղի ունեցածը «ցեղասպանություն» եզրույթով անվանելու հարցն անգամ քննարկման է դրվում»,- գրում է Los Angeles Times-ը՝ տեղի ունեցածն անվանելով «մարդկության դեմ գործված հանցագործություն, որի ցավը պատմության ընթացքում ավելի է տարածվում, քանի որ կառավարությունները հապաղում են ճանաչել այն»:

Պարբերականը նշում է, որ Հայոց ցեղասպանության հետևանքով Թուրքիայում բնակվող հայերի թիվը շուրջ 2.1 միլիոնից նվազեց՝ դառնալով մի քանի հարյուր հազար: Los Angeles Times-ն ընդգծում է, որ թեպետ թուրքական կառավարությունը, որը շարունակում է հերքել իրականացված ոճրագործությունը, պնդում է, թե կատարվածը պատերազմի հետևանք էր և մահացել են ոչ միայն քրիստոնյա հայերը, այլև հրեաներ ու մուսուլմաններ, սակայն իրականում հայերը թիրախավորվել են իրենց էթնիկ պատկանելության պատճառով:

Համեմատական տանելով հրեաների դեմ իրականացված ցեղասպանության հետ՝ պարբերականը նշում է, որ սա նույնն է, եթե կատարվածը վիճարկվի՝ ասելով, թե «ամեն բան այդքան վատ չէ, այլ մարդիկ ևս մահացել են»: «Դա վիրավորանքի աստիճանի անհեթեթություն է»,- գրում է Los Angeles Times-ը:

Պարբերականը նշում է, որ թեպետ թուրքական կառավարությունը շարունակում է համառորեն հերքել կատարվածը, աշխարհի շատ երկրներ արդարացիորեն ճանաչում են՝ պաշտոնական դիրքորոշում ընդունելով և տեղի ունեցածը «Հայոց ցեղասպանություն» անվանելով:

Los Angeles Times-ը նշում է, որ ԱՄՆ դեպքում հարցը հատկապես սուր է, քանի որ ՆԱՏՕ-ի անդամ Թուրքիան այդ երկրի համար ռազմական դաշնակից է, թուրքական Ինջիրլիքում տեղակայված է ամերիկյան ռազմաբազա: Այդուհանդերձ, թուրք-ռուսական հարաբերություններով պայմանավորված՝ թուրք-ամերիկյան հարաբերությունները վերջին տարիներին վատացել են: Դրա արդյունքում էր, որ ԱՄՆ Սենատը 2019 թվականին պաշտոնապես ճանաչեց Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը: Սակայն ԱՄՆ արտաքին քաղաքականություն որոշողը Սպիտակ տունն է:

Պարբերականը հիշեցնում է, որ ԱՄՆ 44-րդ նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման ոսկե հնարավորություն ուներ կատարելու նախընտրական խոստումն ու Հայոց ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցին ճանաչելու պատմական փաստը: Այդուհանդերձ, Օբաման վերջին պահին հետքայլ արեց և փոխարենն օգտագործեց Ցեղասպանության համար հայերենում օգտագործվող «Մեծ եղեռն» եզրույթը: Նույնն արեց նաև հաջորդ նախագահի՝ Դոնալդ Թարմփի վարչակազմը:

Los Angeles Times-ը նշում է, որ նախագահի պաշտոնը ստանձնած Բայդենը ԱՄՆ արտաքին քաղաքականությունը խորապես ու ամենալայն իմաստով ըմբռնող եզակի նորընտիր նախագահներից է՝ Ջորջ Հերբերտ Ուոքեր Բուշից հետո: «Սակայն նա ևս իրեն դրսևորել է որպես չափավոր պրագմատիստ: Անկասկած, արտաքին քաղաքականությունը կարող է լինել որպես բազմաչափ շախմատային խաղ, որի գաղափարը ոչ թե անպայմանորեն հաղթելն է, այլ համոզված լինելը, որ հակառակորդդ տանուլ է տալիս: Սակայն այստեղ կարևոր է ճշմարտությունը և պատմության արդար ճանաչումը: Բայդենը պետք է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը կոչի իր անունով»,- ասվում է Los Angeles Times-ի խմբագրականում:
