Մարտի սկզբին Միջերկրական ծովում ռազմածովային զորավարժություններին միանալու Ֆրանսիայի, Կիպրոսի եւ Հունաստանի որոշումը արտացոլում է տարածաշրջանում ԱՄՆ ներգրավվածության վերաբերյալ մտահոգությունները, The Hill-ում իր հոդվածում գրում է Ջորջ Բուշի վարչակազմի բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյա Դով Զաքհեյմը:

Մարտի 7-12-ը անցկացված զորավարժությունների ուշադրության կենտրոնում ՆԱՏՕ-ի անդամ Թուրքիայի կողմից հավանական ռազմական սպառնալիքն է եղել:

Թուրքիան կոնֆլիկտի մեջ է Իսրայելի, Կիպրոսի եւ Հունաստանի հետ՝ Միջերկրական ծովում ածխաջրածնային հանքավայրերի հանդեպ հավակնությունների պատճառով, մինչդեռ Ֆրանսիան համաձայն չէ երկրի դիրքորոշման հետ տարածաշրջանային ազդեցության համատեքստում: «Այսպիսով, չորս երկրների ռազմածովային զորավարժությունները Միջերկրական ծովի արեւելքում ավելի ու ավելի անկայուն միջավայրի եւս մեկ դրսեւորում են»,- կարծում է Զաքհայմը:

ԱՄՆ նախագահ Ջո Բայդենը «կիսում է Մերձավոր Արեւելքում լրացուցիչ ռազմական միջամտությունից խուսափելու Օբամայի եւ Թրամփի վարչակազմերի ձգտումը»:

Քանի որ Վաշինգտոնը ավելի ու ավելի է տեղաշարժվում դեպի Չինաստան ու Ռուսաստան, Ֆրանսիան փորձում է լրացնել տարածաշրջանում իշխանության վակուումը: Ռազմածովային զորավարժությունների մասնակիցները կարծում են, որ Միացյալ Նահանգները կարող են «միայն երկրորդական դեր ունենալ ուժերի նոր հավասարակշռության մեջ, որը սկսում է ձեւավորվել Մերձավոր Արեւելքում»:
