«Դավաճանի հանրահավաքից առաջ արդեն ակնհայտ էր, որ այն, ըստ էության, բովանդակություն չի ունենալու, և Նիկոլն ասելիք չունի պարզապես: Նա իր առջև ուներ դրված ընդամենը մի խնդիր՝ ամեն գնով ստանալ պատկեր, մարդկանց քանակ՝ ցույց տալու համար, թե ունի ժողովրդական աջակցություն:
Բայց հերթական անգամ ձախողվեց, որովհետև 10 մարզպետարանը, մոտ այդքան նախարարությունները, գրպանային օլիգարխները (սրանք հատուկ ջանք են գործադրում դավաճանին աջակցելու համար և առանձին թեմա են), ՊԵԿ-ից մինչև Պետական վերահսկողական ծառայություն, դպրոցների, մանկապարտեզների տնօրեններ, կարճ ասած՝ պետական ամբողջ ռեսուրսը գործի դնելով, կարողացավ ապահովել այնքան մարդ, որքան Հայրենիքի փրկության շարժումը հավաքում է իր ընթացիկ հանրահավաքների ժամանակ:
Եվ չնայած բոլոր ճիգերին ու ջանքերին՝ կեղծ քարոզչությանը, ֆոտոշոփերին, անգամ՝ ժողովրդի վանկարկումների ու կոչերի՝ բարձրախոսների միջոցով արհեստական ապահովմանը, Նիկոլը ստացավ ընդամենը ժողովրդական աջակցության իմիտացիա և ոչ ավելի։ Նույնիսկ կոկորդիլոսի արդյունքները նրան չփրկեցին։
