ԽՍՀՄ նախկին նախագահ Միխայիլ Գորբաչովը հարցազրույց է տվել «Ինտերֆաքս»-ին, որի շրջանակում կարծիք է հայտնել, թե Կապիտոլիումի գրոհը նախապես էր մշակված է եղել, ու պարզ է, թե ում կողմից:
«Սակայն անկարգությունները գլխավորը չեն: Նրանց խնդիրը պարզ է, բայց` միայն առաջին հայացքից: Ամեն ինչ այդքան էլ պարզ չէ: Քիչ ժամանակ կանցնի եւ մենք կպարզենք, թե ինչու դա իրականում արվեց»,- ասել է Գորբաչովը, ապա նաև Վաշինգտոնում տեղի ունեցած անկարգությունների պատճառով կասկածի տակ է դրել ԱՄՆ-ի՝ որպես պետության հետագա ճակատագիր:
ԽՍՀՄ նախկին նախագահի՝ աշխարհում շրջադարձ կկատարվի դեպի լիցքաթափումը, սպառազինությունների մրցավազքն աստիճանաբար կավարտվի, քանի որ նոր սերնդի մարդիկ կգիտակցեն դրա մահաբերության աստիճանը:
«Երբ ժամանակին ստորագրում էի զինաթափման պայմանագիրը, ժամանակաշրջանն ամենևին էլ հեշտ չէր. կային ուժեղ հակառակորդներ, բայց մենք դրան հասանք, քանի որ խաղաղություն էինք ուզում:
Այն մարդիկ, որոնք չեն ցանկանում պատերազմ, կհամախմբվեն, և նրանց ղեկավարները ստիպված կլինեն ելք գտնել: Նրանք կգտնեն ելք և կգտնեն պայմանագրի նոր ձևեր՝ հաշվի առնելով զենքի նոր տեսակները:
Հույսը կորցնել չի կարելի: Ես երիտասարդների հետ կապված իմ հույսը չեմ կորցնում»,- ասել է Գորբաչովը:
