Հունվարի 6-ին Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցին և աշխարհասփյուռ ողջ հայ ժողովուրդը նշում է տարվա հինգ տաղավար տոներից առաջինը՝ Հիսուսի հրաշափառ Ծննդյան և Աստվածհայտնության տոնը՝ «Քրիստոս ծնավ և հայտնեցավ՝ օրհնյալ է հայտնությունը Քրիստոսի» ավանդական ավետիսով, որը հնչում է յուրաքանչյուր հայ քրիստոնյայի շուրթերից 301 թվականից՝ քրիստոնեությունը պետական կրոն ընդունելուց ի վեր:

Այսօր Աստվածհայտնության տոնն է, քանզի այսօր ծնվեց փառքի Աստվածը՝ Միածին Որդին, և երեսուն տարի անց՝ դարձյալ հունվարի 6-ին, մկրտվեց: Վայել է Աստծուն, Ով զորացրեց սուրբ Կույսին՝ Իրեն ըստ մարմնի ծնելու համար, մկրտվել իր ծննդյան օրը՝ իջնելով ջրի մեջ, այն սրբելով ու զորացնելով և սուրբ Ավազանի արգանդը պտղատու դարձնելով, որպեսզի Սուրբ Հոգու միջոցով մենք վերստին ծնվենք սուրբ Ավազանից և կոչվենք Աստծու որդի:

Սրա համար էլ Հայ Եկեղեցին միասին է տոնում Ծննդյան և Մկրտության տոները և այն անվանում «Հայտնության տոն», որով իմանում ենք, որ Նա, Ով ծնվեց սուրբ Կույսից, նույն Ինքն այսօր եկավ մկրտվելու Հովհաննեսից, վկայվեց Հորից և դավանվեց որպես Որդի՝ Հոր մշտնջենավոր Ծնունդ, նույն էությունից:

Հայտնության տոն է կոչվում, որովհետև այսօր արարածները տեսան իրենց Արարչին: Այսօր Աստված ծննդյամբ հայտնվեց և՛ երկնայիններին, և՛ երկրայիններին՝ հրեշտակներին, հովիվներին ու մոգերին, ինչպես նաև անբաններին՝ քարայրին ու մսուրին: Հետևապես՝ Տիրոջ ծննդյամբ եղավ նաև Նրա հայտնությունը, և Աստված, սուրբ Կույսից ծնվելով, որպես մարդ երևաց: Այդ պատճառով էլ Պողոսն ասում է. «Աստված Իր շնորհը հայտնեց որպես փրկության միջոց բոլոր մարդկանց» (Տիտ. Բ 11):
