Կորոնավիրուսի համավարակի ժամանակ դիմակների համատեղ օգտագործումը կարող է հանգեցնել անկանխատեսելի հետեւանքների, քանի որ 1,56 միլիարդ դիմակ կաղտոտեն օվկիանոսը 2020 թվականին, հաղորդում է Washington Examiner-ը:
«1.56 միլիարդ դիմակ, որոնք, հավանաբար, կհայտնվեն մեր օվկիանոսներում 2020 թվականին, միայն այսբերգի գագաթն է»,-ասել է OceansAsia-ի հետազոտող, դոկտոր Թիլ Ֆելփս Բոնդարոֆը, որը հետազոտության հեղինակներից մեկն է:
Չնայած դիմակները կարող են լինել կորոնավիրուսի համավարակի առավել նկատելի խորհրդանիշները՝ դրանք միակ պլաստիկը չեն, որոնք կհանգեցնեն օվկիանոսների աղտոտմանը 2020 թվականի: OceansAsia-ի գործառնությունների տնօրեն Հերի Սթոուքսը նշել է, որ բազմաթիվ պլաստիկ իրեր են օգտագործվել այս տարի: «Հիգիենայի պահպանումն ու «վերցրու քեզ հետ» սկզբունքով սննդից կախվածությունը հանգեցրել են պլաստիկի առավելի լայն կիրառմանը»,-ասել է Ստոուքսը: «Մինչդեռ մի շարք արգելքների սահմանումը կասեցվել է, օրինակ, մեկանգամյա պլաստիկից տոպրակների օգտագործման արգելքը հետաձգվել է, դադարեցվել կամ չեղարկվել»:
«Պլաստիկով աղտոտումն ամեն տարի սպանում է շուրջ 100 000 կաթնասուն եւ կրիա, ավելի քան մեկ միլիոն ծովային թռչուններ եւ ավելի մեծ թվով ձկներ, անողնաշարավորներ ու այլ կենդանիներ: Դա նաեւ բացասաբար է ազդում ձկնորսության եւ տուրիզմի ոլորտի վրա, եւ համաշխարհային տնտեսության համար սահմանում է տարեկան շուրջ 13 միլիարդ դոլար ծախս»:
Հետազոտության հեղինակներն ասում են, որ բազմանգամյա օգտագործման դիմակները կարող են օգնել նվազեցնել շրջակա միջավայրի աղտոտվածությունը, ընդ որում՝ կոչ անելով կառավարություններին որդեգրել այնպիսի քաղաքականություն, ինչպես տուգանքներն են աղբի համար եւ հանրային առողջության հիմնարար սկզբունքների թարմացումը:
