«Ռուսաստանը ռազմական միջամտությամբ է սպառնում, եթե Ադրբեջանը հրաժարվի երկարատեւ հրադադարից Հայաստանի հետ շարունակվող հակամարտությունում: Ռուսաստանի արտգործնախարարությունը նախազգուշացրել է, որ «Ռուսաստանը [Հայաստանին] կտրամադրի ամբողջ անհրաժեշտ օգնությունը, եթե բախումները տեղափոխվեն հենց դրա տարածք»,- գրում է Թոմ Ռոգանը Washington Examiner-ում:
«Մինչ այժմ Ռուսաստանը պասիվ դեր էր խաղում: Վլադիմիր Պուտինի կառավարությունը փորձել է կայուն զինադադարի հասնել` այդ գործում աշխատելով Եվրամիության եւ Վաշինգտոնի հետ: Ցավոք, այդ զինադադարներից ոչ մեկը մեկ ժամից ավել չի ձգվել: Ռուսաստանի նոր հայտարարությունը նպատակ ունի փոխել այդ հավասարումը` Թուրքիայի վրա հատուկ շեշտադրումով:
Նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը, առաջնորդվելով Հայաստանի հանդեպ հին ատելությամբ եւ իսլամիստական կայսերական ղեկավարության նարատիվն առաջ տանելու ցանկությամբ, սատարում է Ադրբեջանի ռազմական ջանքերին: Ռազմական գործողությունների բռնկումից ի վեր Էրդողանն ուղղակի եւ անուղղակի ռազմական աջակցություն է ցուցաբերել Ադրբեջանին, այդ թվում` հետախուզությամբ, անօդաչու թռչող սարքերոց, զենքով եւ վարձկանների տեղակայմամբ: Երբ հրադադարի մասին բանակցություններ էին ընթանում, Էրդողանը ճնշում էր գործադրում Ադրբեջանի վրա, որպեսզի այն շարունակի ռազմական գործողությունները եւ ուժեղացնի ճնշումը Հայաստանի վրա: Դա կանխեց իրավիճակի կայունացումը տեղում եւ քաղաքացիական բնակչության տառապանքների աճի հանգեցրեց:
Թուրքական այդ համառությունը զայրացրեց Պուտինին: Ռուսաստանը լավ հարաբերություններ ունի ինչպես Հայաստանի, այնպես էլ Ադրբեջանի հետ եւ չի ցանկանում, որպեսզի իր հարավային սահմանին անվերահսկելի պատերազմ մղվի: Իր դժգոհությունն արտահայտելով` Պուտինը նախորդ շաբաթ ռուսական օդուժին հրամայեց ռմբակոծել թուրք զինյալների դիրքերը Սիրիայում: Տասնյակ զինյալներ զոհվեցին: Դա ուղերձ էր. շարունակեք բորբոքել հակամարտությունը, եւ ես ձեզ կստիպեմ վճարել դրա համար: Մոսկվայի վերջին նախազգուշացումը ռազմական միջամտության մասին ի աջակցություն Հայաստանին Էրդողանին ուղղված ազդանշան էր կարմիր գծի մասին:
Ըստ էության, Պուտինն ասում է, որ եթե Թուրքիան չդադարեցնի հակամարտության հրահրումը, Ռուսաստանը կստիպի Էրդողանին ներքեւ գլորվել: Պուտինը, հավանաբար նախորդ փորձից ելնելով, ակնկալում է, որ Էրդողանը կնկատի իր զայրույթը եւ կնահանջի: Ինչ վերաբերում է վճռական պահին, ապա Թուրքիայի ղեկավարը Ռուսաստանի ղեկավարի հետ կոնֆլիկտի մեջ չմտնելու ցանկություն ցուցադրեց: Կամ Էրդողանը կսատարի լուրջ հրադադարի ռեժիմին, կամ լոկալ հակամարտությունը նոր միջազգային երանգ կստանա: Հաշվի առնելով, որ Թուրքիան ՆԱՏՕ-ի անդամ է, հուսանք, որ դա առաջին տարբերակն է»:
