Ճապոնիայի էկոնոմիկայի նախկին նախարար եւ երկրի հիմնական ընդդիմադիր Սահմանադրական ժողովրդավարական կուսակցության (ՍԺԿ) առաջնորդ Յուկիո Էդանոն ստանձնել է նոր կուսակցության ղեկավարի դերն այն բանից հետո, երբ հինգշաբթի ՍԺԿ-ն միացավ երկրի Ժողովրդադեմոկրատական ​​կուսակցությանը: Նոր կուսակցությունը վերջին քվեարկության արդյունքներով Ճապոնիայի Սահմանադրական ժողովրդավարական կուսակցության անունը պահպանվել է, հաղորդում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:

Ճապոնիայի վարչապետ Սինձո Աբեն օգոստոսի 28-ին հայտարարել էր, որ ցանկանում է հեռանալ պաշտոնից առողջության վատթարացման պատճառով: Նա նաեւ հայտնել էր ԼԴԿ-ի եւ «Կոմեյտո» կուսակցության կազմով իշխող կոալիցիային, որ չի պատրաստվում ժամանակավոր վարչապետ նշանակել, այլ նախատեսում է մնալ իր պաշտոնում, մինչեւ ԼԴԿ-ն իրեն փոխարինող նոր թեկնածու կներկայացնի: Կուսակցության կանոնադրության համաձայն` ԼԴԿ-ի հաջորդ ղեկավարն այս պաշտոնը կզբաղեցնի մինչեւ 2021 թվականի սեպտեմբերի վերջ, երբ լրանում է պաշտոնաթող Աբեի լիազորությունների ժամկետը: Դրանից հետո նոր նախագահական ընտրություններ կանցկացվեն ստանդարտ երեք տարի ժամկետով:
