Կանադացի երգիչ Էյբլ Տեսֆայեն, որը հանդես է գալիս The Weeknd կեղծանունով, MTV Video Music Awards 2020 մրցանակաբաշխության ժամանակ հաղթել է «Տարվա տեսահոլովակ» անվանակարգում՝ մրցանակի արժանանալով Binding Lights երգի տեսահոլովակի համար, հաղորդում է հեռուստաալիքը:

Երգչի ստեղծագործությունը նաև արժանացել է «R&B ոճի լավագույն երգ» անվանակարգում մրցանակի:

«Ես հիմա տոնելու տրամադրություն չունեմ, միայն կասեմ անաչառ արդարադատություն Ջեյքոբ Բլեյքի և Բրիոնա Թեյլորի համար», - հայտարարել է երգիչը՝ նկատի ունենալով Կենոշայի ոստիկանների կողմից հրազենային վիրավորում ստացած աֆրոամերիկացի Ջեյքոբ Բլեյքին և ոստիկանության կողմից տունը խուզարկելիս գնդակահարված աֆրոամերիկուհուն:

Բացի The Weeknd-ից, գլխավոր մրցանակին հավակնում էին ամերիկացի երգչուհի Բիլի Այլիշը՝ Everything I Wanted երգի տեսահոլովակով, ռեփերներ Էմինեմը և Juice WRLD-ը՝ Godzilla երգի տեսահոլովակով, ռեփ կատարողներ Future-ը և Դրեյքը՝  Life Is Good երգի տեսահոլովակով, Թեյլոր Սվիֆթը՝ The Man տեսահոլովակով, և Լեդի Գագան ու Արիանա Գրանդեն՝ Rain On Me դուետի տեսահոլովակով։

Լեդի Գագայի և Արիանա Գրանդեի Rain On Me դուետն արժանացել է MTV Video Music Awards-ի «Տարվա երգ» և «Լավագույն համագործակցություն» անվանակարգերում մրցանակների: Գագան նաև ճանաչվել է «Տարվա լավագույն կատարող»։

Իրենց տպավորիչ ելույթի ժամանակ, որի ընթացքում 34-ամյա Լեդի Գագան իր վերջին՝ Chromatica ալբոմից կատարել է 911, Stupid Love և Rain On Me հիթերը, զույգը բեմում է հայտնվել դիմակներով։

Լեդի Գագան իր ելույթի համար ընտրել է լուսադիոդային LED-դիմակ, որը կրել է կատարման ամբողջ ընթացքում, իսկ 27-ամյա Գրանդեն Rain On Me հիթի կատարման ժամանակ Գագային է միացել սև մետաքսե դիմակով։

Արիանա Գրանդեն և Ջասթին Բիբերն իրենց Stuck with U երաժշտական տեսահոլովակի համար մրցանակ են ստացել կորոնավիրուսի համավարակի ֆոնին ստեղծված նոր՝ «Տանը նկարահանված լավագույն երաժշտական տեսահոլովակ» անվանակարգում։

«Լավագույն խումբ» է ճանաչվել հարավկորեական BTS խումբը, նրանք նաև մրցանակ են նվաճել «Լավագույն փոփ երգ» անվանակարգում։

Փոփ աստղ Թեյլոր Սվիֆթը The Man երգի տեսահոլովակի ռեժիսուրայի համար արժանացել է մրցանակի:

MTV Video Music Awards մրցանակաբաշխությունը հիմնադրվել է MTV երաժշտական հեռուստաալիքի կողմից 1984 թվականին՝ հետագայում դառնալով ամենահեղինակավոր մրցանակներից մեկը։ Մրցանակաբաշխության դափնեկիրներին ավանդաբար արձանիկներ են հանձնում տիեզերագնացի տեսքով, որի վրա պատկերված է հեռուստաալիքի լոգոտիպը:

Այս տարի կորոնավիրուսի համավարակի պայմաններում անվտանգության միջոցառումներին հետևելով՝ արարողությունը տեղի է ունեցել առանց հանդիսականի՝ Նյու Յորքի հինգ շրջաններում՝ Մանհեթենում, Բրուքլինում, Քուինսում, Բրոնքսում և Սթեյթեն Այլենդում:
