Գարեգին Բ Ամենայն հայոց կաթողիկոսը հանդես է եկել հայտարարությամբ, որտեղ անդրադարձել է Սուրբ Սոֆիայի տաճարը մզկիթի վերածելու Թուրքիայի իշխանությունների որոշմանը:

 

Հայտարարությունում ասվում է.

 

«Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնում ցավով արձանագրեցինք տակավին մի քանի օր առաջ՝ հուլիսի 10-ին, Թուրքիայի Հանրապետության նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանի կողմից Օրթոդոքս Եկեղեցիների եւ քրիստոնեական աշխարհի համար կարեւոր նշանակություն ունեցող Սուրբ Սոֆիայի տաճարը թանգարանից մզկիթի վերածելու որոշումը։ Հակառակ համաքրիստոնեական տարբեր կազմակերպությունների, եկեղեցապետերի ու քաղաքական առաջնորդների կոչերին՝ թուրքական կառավարությունն ընդունեց միակողմանի ու դատապարտելի որոշում՝ դրանով իսկ խախտելով Թուրքիայում ազգային կրոնական փոքրամասնությունների իրավունքները։

 

Ցավով ենք նշում, որ միլիոնավոր քրիստոնյաների կոչերն ու անհանգստություններն անտեսվեցին, հաշվի չառնվեց նույնիսկ ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի կողմից Սուրբ Սոֆիայի տաճարը համաշխարհային մշակութային գանձարանում ներառնված լինելու փաստը։

 

Թուրքիայի կառավարության գործողությունը ծանր հուշեր է արթնացնում դարեր շարունակ Օսմանյան իշխանությունների կողմից հայ ժողովրդի, ինչպես նաեւ այլ քրիստոնյա ազգերի սրբատեղիների պղծման ու կործանման վերաբերյալ։ Հայաստանյայց Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցին ու հայ ժողովուրդը, որպես Օսմանյան Թուրքիայում Ցեղասպանություն վերապրած ժողովուրդ, կիսում է օրթոդոքս եղբայրների եւ քույրերի ցավն ու անհանգստությունը։

 

Հայոց Եկեղեցին դատապարտում է քաղաքական շահերից ելնող՝ կրոնների փոխըմբռնման ու երկխոսության գործընթացին մեծապես վնասող Թուրքիայի կառավարության որոշումը՝ միաժամանակ կոչ անելով վերանայել այն ու վերադառնալ Թուրքիայում տարբեր կրոնական համայնքների խաղաղ աղոթական համակեցության սկզբունքին։

 

Պատմության վայրիվերումների ու քաղաքական փոփոխությունների ընթացքում Սուրբ Սոֆիայի տաճարը պատմական եւ մշակութային արժեքից զատ ձեռք է բերել նաեւ տարբեր՝ կրոնական, մշակութային եւ քաղաքական նշանակություն՝ դառնալով ոչ թե քաղաքակրթությունների բախման, այլ համագործակցության եւ մարդկության միասնության խորհրդանիշ:

 

Միակողմանի այդ որոշման պատճառով ստեղծված դժվարին այս իրավիճակում աղոթքով զորակից ենք Կոստանդնուպոլսի Տիեզերական պատրիարք, մեր սիրեցյալ եղբայր Նորին Սրբություն Բարդուղիմեոս պատրիարքին եւ Օրթոդոքս Եկեղեցու մեր քույրերին ու եղբայրներին։
