Առնվազն 188 մարդ Է զոհվել, եւս 230 հազար բնակիչներ զրկվել են օթեւանից Հնդկաստանի հարավի Թամիլնադի նահանգում վերջին երկու շաբաթվա ընթացքում մոլեգնող հեղեղումների հետեւանքով: Այդ մասին, դեկտեմբերի 2-ին հայտնել Է տեղի ոստիկանությունը:

Գետերում ջրի մակարդակի չտեսնված բարձրացում են առաջացրել հորդառատ անձրեւները, իշխանություններն ստիպված են եղել արտակարգ դրություն սահմանել: Բնակավայրերից առավել շատ Է տուժել նահանգի վարչական կենտրոնը՝ Չեննայ քաղաքը, որի բնակչությունը կազմում Է մոտավորապես 5 միլիոն մարդ:

«Մեգապոլիսում ջրածածկ են եղել շատ փողոցներ, այդ թվում՝ տրանսպորտային գլխավոր մայրուղին: Խախտվել են հաղորդակցությունները, առանց Էլեկտրականության Է մնացել արվարձանների շենքերի 60 տոկոսը, ինչպես նաեւ քաղաքի թաղամասերի կեսը,-իրադրությունը մեկնաբանել են իրավապահ մարմինները:-Աշխատանքը դադարեցրել են տեղի արդյունաբերական ձեռնարկությունները, Չեննայի օդանավակայանի զգալի տարածքներ հայտնվել են ջրի տակ: Չեղյալ են հայտարարվել բազմաթիվ չվերթեր, նույն վիճակում Է հայտնվել նաեւ երկաթուղային հաղորդակցությունը»: 

Գյուղական վայրերում գործում են փրկարարների ջոկատները եւ բանակային ստորաբաժանումները, որոնք մարդկանց տարհանում են վտանգավոր վայրերից:
