Ուիմբլդոնի «Grand Slam» սերիայի մրցաշարը չեղյալ է հայտարարվել կորոնավիրուսային համաճարակի պատճառով: Այս մասին հայտնում են մրցաշարի մամուլի ծառայությունից: Ուիմբլդոնը նախատեսվում էր անցկացնել Մեծ Բրիտանիայում հունիսի 29-ից հուլիսի 12-ը: Ներկայումս թենիսի բոլոր մրցաշարերը դադարեցվել են մինչև հունիսի 7֊ը՝ կորոնավիրուսի համաճարակի պատճառով: 2021 թվականին Ուիմբլդոնը կանցկացվի հունիսի 28-ից հուլիսի 11-ը:

 

 

 

Ավելի վաղ, Grand Slam- ի մեկ այլ մրցաշար՝ «Ֆրանսիական օփեն» -ը, որը պլանավորվում էր անցկացնել Փարիզում մայիսի 25-ից հունիսի 7-ը, տեղափոխվել է աշուն: «Մենք այս որոշումը կայացրեցինք մեծագույն հարգանքով բոլորի հանդեպ, ովքեր հավաքվել էին, հանրային առողջության և բարեկեցության համար: Մեզ համար շատ դժվար էր մտածել, որ առաջնությունները նախկինում ընդհատվում էին միայն համաշխարհային պատերազմներով։ Մենք հավատում ենք, որ ի վերջո ճիշտ որոշում կլինի այս տարվա առաջնությունը չեղարկելը և փոխարենը կենտրոնանալ այն բանի վրա, թե ինչպես կարող ենք օգտագործել Ուիմբլդոնի ռեսուրսները` օգնելու կորոնավիրուսի դեմ պայքարում», - ասել է անգլիական Թենիսի և Թակախաղի ակումբի (AELTC) նախագահ Յան Հյուիթթը։ Մրցաշարը անցկացվում է 1877 թվականից ի վեր, այս խաղը պետք է լիներ134-րդը: Նախկինում մրցաշարը չեղյալ է հայտարարվել միայն համաշխարհային պատերազմների ժամանակաշրջաններում (1915-1918, 1940-1945): Անցած մրցաշրջանում հաղթեցին սերբ Նովակ Ջոկովիչը և ռումինացի Սիմոնե Հալեպը, մրցույթի մրցանակային միավորը կազմում էր 49.43 միլիոն դոլար: Ամենից հաճախ տղամարդկանց սինգլների կարգում շվեյցարացիները հաղթել են Ռոջեր Ֆեդերերին (8 անգամ), կանայք շահեցին Մարտին Նավրատիլովան (9), ով տարբեր տարիներ ներկայացնում էին Չեխոսլովակիան և Միացյալ Նահանգները:
