Չինաստանում սրանց օգտագործում են ուտեստի և բժշկության մեջ: Ասում են, որ սրանք օգնում են հազի, մալարիայի և գոնորեայի դեմ պայքարել:
Նույնիսկ չղջիկների արտաթորանքն է օգտագործվում. ավանդական բժշկության համաձայն՝ դա կարող է բուժել աչքի հիվանդությունները:
