Իհարկե, բոլորն են լսել Մորզեի այբուբենի մասին, որը օգտագործում են ինչպես զինվորականները, այնպես էլ քաղաքացիական տարբեր մասնագետներ: Մորզեի այբուբենը նիշային կոդավորման համակարգ է, որը կոդավորում է թվեր, տառեր, կետադրական նշաններ և այլ սիմվոլներ, որոնք կարող են վերծանվել համապատասխան երկար և կարճ ազդանշանների միջոցով, ինչպիսիք են գիծը և կետը։ 

Սկզբից այն օգտագործվել է հեռագրային սարքերում (որը ևս Մորզեն է հորինել): Լարի մի կողմում գտնվում է էլեկտրական հաղորդիչը, իսկ մյուս ծայրին՝ ընդունիչը, որն էլ միացված է թղթե ժապավենի վրա գրող սարքավորմանը: Նման սարքերը անփոփոխ տեսքով գոյատևել են մինչև 20րդ դարի կեսերը: 

Սեմյուել Ֆինլի Բրիզ Մորզեն (1791-1872 թվականներ) ամերիկացի նկարիչ և հեռագրության բնագավառի գյուտարար է։ Մորզեն երկար տարիներ զբաղվել է գեղանկարչությամբ և դիմանկարչությամբ, սակայն համոզվել է, որ ամերիկացիներին նկարչական արվեստը չի հետաքրքրում: 

Երբ նրան 1836 թվականին ցույց են տվել Վիլհելմ Վեբերի կողմից ստեղծված հեռագրային սարքի մոդելը, նա ամբողջությամբ նվիրվել է դրան: 

Տեսածի տպավորության տակ նա որոշել է աշխատել լարերի միջով անցնող «կայծերի» օգնությամբ տարածության վրա տեղեկատվություն տարածելու ուղղությամբ: Մորզեն անմիջապես գծագրել է ապագա սարքի մակետը և սկսել աշխատել դրա կատարելագործման վրա:

 1837 թվականին նա ցուցադրել է հեռագրասարքի իր առաջին մոդելը: Իր գործընկեր Ալֆրեդ Վեյլի հետ համատեղ նա մշակել է կետերի և գծիկների միջոցով տառերի հաղորդման մեխանիզմը: 1838 թվականին Մորզեն դա ցուցադրել է Ֆիլադելֆիայի Ֆրանկլինի համալսարանում, և այդ օրվանից այդ այբուբենը կոչվել է Մորզեի այբուբեն: Չնայած Ալֆրեդ Վեյլն ամեն ինչ արել է Մորզեի հետ համատեղ, և անգամ առաջին հեռագրային սարքի և Մորզեի այբուբենի ստեղծման հարցում նա ավելի կարևոր է եղել, քան Մորզեն, բայց պատմության մեջ մնացել է Մորզեի անունը:

 Անսպասելիորեն հեռագիրը պահանջված է դարձել լրագրողների, բանկերի և երկաթուղու համար: Հեռագրային գծերը արագորեն ծավալվել են ամբողջ աշխարհում: Միայն Եվրոպայից 1858 թվականին Մորզեն ստացել է 400 000 ֆրանկ հեղինակային վարձ: 1848 թվականին Վեյլ/Մորզեի այբուբենը կատարելագործվել է ազգությամբ գերմանացի Ֆրիդրիխ Գերկեի և իր գործընկերների կողմից, որը և օգտագործվում է առ այսօր։ 

Հետագայում Մորզեն առանձնատուն է գնել Նյու Յորքի հարևանությամբ և զբաղվել միայն բարեգործությամբ: 

Մահվանից հետո նրա փառքը անկում է ապրել, քանի որ հայտնվել են հեռագրին գերազանցող հեռախոսը, ռադիոն և հեռուստատեսությունը:

 Բայց փոխարենը աճել է նրա հեղինակությունը որպես նկարիչ: Մորզեն այդպես էլ մինչև կյանքի վերջ իրեն համարել է նկարիչ: 

Չնայած այդ ամենին՝ ներկայումս էլ փաստացի ցանկացած հեռագրի և ռադիոկապի մասնագիտացված հաստատություններում պարտադիր սովորում են Մորզեի այբուբենը: Ընդ որում, անհրաժեշտություն չկա հիշել յուրաքանչյուր տառին համապատասխան կետ-գծերի կոմբինացիաները: Ավելի հեշտ է հիշել հաճախ օգտագործվող բառերի «հնչողությունը» ամբողջությամբ, որն էլ հենց հեշտացնում է ամբողջ այբուբենի ընկալումը:
