«Քանի որ "Մարտի 1" մասին հուշեր են սկսել տարածել, մի հուշ էլ ես պատմեմ։
2008-ին Արևմուտքի համար ցանկալի թեկնածուն Սերժ Սարգսյանն է եղել, իսկ Տեր-Պետրոսյանը՝ ոչ։ Սերժ Սարգսյանի պահով Ռուսաստանը մտահոգություններ ուներ, սակայն Տեր-Պետրոսյանի պահով՝ ավելին։
Ընտրություններից մոտ մեկ ամիս առաջ, մի քանի հոգով, հանդիպել էինք ԵՄ դեսպանի հետ։ Հանդիպումը փակ էր և բավականին անկեղծ մթնոլորտում էր անցել։
Մենք մտահոգություն ունեինք Սերժ Սարգսյանի թեկնածության հարցում և հարցնում էինք, ինչու եք իրեն սատարում։ Դեսպանը՝ Լուցենբերգերը, մեզ ուղիղ ասաց, որ Սերժ Սարգսյանն Արևմուտքին խոստումներ է տվել և իրենց համար ինքը ցանկալի թեկնածու է - կան պայմանավորվածություններ։
Նաև հիշեցնեմ, որ Մարտի 1 -ին ԵՄ դեսպանները հանդիպել է Քոչարյանին ու Տեր-Պետրոսյանին՝ միջնորդական առաքելությամբ, մինչև հիմնական ընդհարումները։ Եթե ԵՄ -ի, ԱՄՆ կամ Ռուսաստանի կողմից, որևէ մի կողմից, կոշտ նախազգուշացում լիներ ուժի կիրառման անթույլատրելիության մասին, ապա որևէ կտրուկ գործողություն չէր լինի»:
