ՆԱՏՕ գլխավոր քարտուղար Ենս Ստոլտենբերգը կարծում է, որ ԵՄ-ն ի վիճակի չէ պաշտպանել Եվրոպան։ Այս կարծիքը նա հայտնել է El Pais թերթում հրապարակված հարցազրույցում, տեղեկացնում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը։

«Հաջորդ շաբաթ ես մեկնելու եմ Փարիզ եւ նախատեսում եմ քննարկել (դաշինքի «ուղեղի մահվան» մասին արտահայտության) հարցը Մակրոնի հետ,- ճշտել է Ստոլտենբերգը։- Այսօր ես կարող եմ ասել, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն ուժեղ է, օպերատիվ եւ կենսականորեն կարեւոր մեր անվտանգության համար»։ «Եվրոպական դաշինքը չի կարող փոխարինել տրանսատլանտյան դաշինքին,- հավաստիացրել է նա։- ԵՄ-ը կարեւոր է, բայց չի կարող պաշտպանել Եվրոպան»։

«Մենք ապրում ենք այնպիսի աշխարհում, որում պետք է միասին լինենք,- կարծում  է կազմակերպության գլխավոր քարտուղարը։- Իրականությունն այնպիսին է, որ գոյություն ունեն այնքան շատ մարտահրավերներ, այնքան շատ սպառնալիքներ, այնքան շատ անորոշություններ, որ երկիրը պաշտպանելու լավագույն միջոցը այլ երկրների հետ միասին լինելն է»։ «Քանի դեռ ցանկացած պոտենցիալ հակառակորդ գիտի, որ դաշնակցի վրա հարձակումը առաջ կբերի ողջ դաշինքի պատասխանը, հարձակում չի լինի»,- կարծում է Ստոլտենբերգը։

Նրա կարծիքով՝ «Եվրոպան Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայից հեռացնելու ցանկացած փորձ ոչ միայն կթուլացնի ՆԱՏՕ-ն, այլեւ կբաժանի Եվրոպան»։ «Դաշինքը խաղաղություն է պահպանել եւ խուսափել հակամարտություններից 70 տարի,- կարծում է Ստոլտենբերգը։- Եվ մենք կշարունակենք դա անել շատ տասնամյակներ»։

Մակրոնը The Economist ամսագրի հարցազրույցում ասել էր, թե ՆԱՏՕ-ն լիովին կորցրել է կոորդինացիան դաշինքի ներսում եւ գտնվում է  «ուղեղի մահվան» վիճակում։ Ֆրանսիայի նախագահը նաեւ նշել էր, որ Եվրոպային անհրաժեշտ է սկսել մտածել իր մասին որպես ինքնուրույն աշխարհաքաղաքական ուժի, այլապես «չի վերահսկի իր ճակատագիրը»։
