Նյու-Յորքի պլաստիկ վիրաբույժ Մելիսա Դոֆթի խոսքերով, ով մասնագիտացել է պլաստիկ վիրաբուժության մեջ, գնալով շատանում են շրթունքների փոքրացմանն ուղղված պրոցեդուրաները, որը որպես կանոն ավելի տարածված է ասիական երկրներում:
Ինչպես բացատրում է բժիշկ Դոֆթը, պրոցեդուրան իր մեջ ներառում է շրթունքներից մաշկի հատուկ հեռացում, և դրվում են կարեր շրթունքների նոր գծի ստեղծման համար, արդյունքում ստացվում է շրթունքների փոքր, ավելի բարակ ուրվագիծ:
Չնայած շրթունքների փոքրացումը կատարվում է որպես ամբուլատոր պրոցեդուրա, այնուամենայնիվ այն վիրահատություն է, որը տևում է 15-30 րոպե կախված հեռացվող հյուսվածքի քանակից:
