Երբ Ատլանտյան օվկիանոսում հզոր փոթորիկ մոլեգնեց, ալիքները Հյուսիսային Կառոլինայի լողափի ափ նետեցին տարօրինակ առարկա, որն ավելի ուշ հայտնաբերեց հանգստացող Դենի Բլենդը:
Երբ Դենին վերցրեց գտածոն և լավ նայեց, սկզբում չհասկացավ՝ իր առջև ինչ է, բայց շուտով գիտակցեց սարսափելի ճշմարտությունը:
Միլիոնավոր տարիներ առաջ մեր մոլորակում իսկապես բնակություն հաստատեցին իսկական «խորը ջրի հրեշներ»:
Դինոզավրերի ժամանակաշրջանում էակների մեծ մասը տարբերվում էր հսկայական չափերով:
Սպիտակ շնաձկները, որոնք այսօր ապրում են օվկիանոսի ջրերում, որոնց երկարությունը սովորաբար հասնում է 6,5 մետրի, շատ փոքր են իրենց նախնիների համեմատ:
Այդ կենդանիները Երկրի վրա երբևէ ապրած ամենախոշոր շնաձկներն էին, դրանց երկարությունը հասնում էր մոտ 20 մետրի: Մեգալոդոնը ևս հսկա էր:
Մեգալոդոնի ատամների չափն ապացուցում է, թե ինչքան մեծ էր դրանց երախը: Դենին տեղի լողափին իդեալական նմուշ գտավ: 15-սմ-անոց ժանիքը, որը նա հայտնաբերեց, ժամանակին պատկանում էր մեծահասակ շնաձկան:
Գիտնականները մինչև հիմա փորձում են գուշակել՝ ինչու վերացան այդ ծովային գիշատիչները: Եթե պատճառը սննդային շղթայի փոփոխությունն է, ըստ ամենայնի, մեգալոդոններն ավելի մեծ և սարսափելի էակների զոհ դարձան:
Մեզ միայն մնում է հուսալ, որ դրանք նույնպես վերացան:
Մեգալոդոնների առցանց խանութներում ժանիքները շատ թանկ արժեն: Այս գիշատիչների որոշ սիրահարներ պատրաստ են մեծ գումարներ վճարել դրանց բրածոների համար:
Այսօր մեգալոդոնի ատամի արժեքը հասնում է 895 դոլարի:
