Եվրամիությունն ինքն իրեն է վնաս հասցրել՝ աջակցելով Կիպրոսին եւ Թուրքիայի դեմ պատժամիջոցներ սահմանելով՝ կապված Կիպրոսի բացառիկ տնտեսական գոտում հորատման հետ: Այսպիսի կարծիք է հայտնել Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Էրդողանը, փոխանցում է «Հաբերթյուրքը»:
«ԵՄ-ն, որը պատժամիջոցներ է սահմանում Միջերկրական ծովի արեւելյան հատվածում հորատման աշխատանքների պատճառով, ինքն իրեն է վնասում: ԵՄ-ն մի վիճակում է հայտնվել, երբ աջակցում է անհավասարությանը հավասարության նկատմամբ, անարդարությանը արդարության նկատմամբ եւ դաժանությանը կղզում խաղաղության նկատմամբ»,- Անկարայում թուրք կիպրոսցիների առաջնորդ Էրսին Թաթարի հետ մամուլի ասուլիսում հայտարարել է Էրդողանը:
Նրա խոսքով՝ «Արեւելյան Միջերկրականում ոչ մի նախագիծ չի կարող իրականացվել առանց Թուրքիային եւ թուրք կիպրոսցիներին հաշվի առնելու»: «Մեր ռազմածովային եւ օդային ուժերը պատասխանատվություն են կրում այն բանի համար, որ մեր նավերն անվտանգ կատարեն իրենց (հորատման) գործունեությունը,- ասել է Էրդողանը: - Նրանք, ովքեր ցանկանում են ստուգել այդ կապակցությամբ մեր երկրի վճռականությունը, պետք է դասեր քաղեն»:
