Ընթացիկ տարվա մայիսի վերջում Թուրքիան որոշում էր կայացրել զենք մատակարարել սիրիական ընդդիմությանը, որպեսզի վերջինս կարողանա հակազդել Ասադի կառավարական զորքերին: Թուրքական կողմի փաստարկը Սիրիայում ստեղծված իրավիճակն է, որը մեծացնում է փախստականների հոսքը դեպի Թուրքիա:

Ռուսաստանը մինչեւ վերջերս հանդուրժում էր դա, նաեւ Անկարան մշտապես պնդում էր առաջիկայում ահաբեկիչներին ամբողջովին հանդարտեցման մաին: Թուրքիայի կողմից հովանավորվող Ազգային ազատագրական ճակատի ներկայացուցիչը չի հաստատել, սակայն նաեւ չի հերքել թուրքական զինամթերքի նոր մատակարարման մասին տեղեկատվությունը: Նա միայն հայտարարել է, որ ապստամբներն արդեն վաղուց ունեն զենքի մեծ տեսականի:

Մինչդեռ Էրդողանը ցանկանում է փոխանակել իր թաքնված հակառուսական դիրքորոշումն իր համար շահավետ որոշման հետ, մասնավորապես, քրդերի վերաբերյալ: Աստանայի ձեւաչափի հետ իր հարաբերություններն ամրապնդելու փոխարեն՝ Անկարան սիրահետում է արեւմտյան կոալիցիայի հետ՝ հույս ունենալով, որ այն պատրաստ է տապալել Բաշար Ասադի գործող ռեժիմը: Իսկ դա կարող է հանգեցնել երկու կողմերի լավ տրամադրվածության կորստին: Այլ կերպ ասած՝ նախագահ Էրդողանի կառավարությունը «կարող է կորցնել ցորենը, որն ունի, քանի դեռ գտնվում է բրինձը ձեռքբերելու ճանապարհին»:
