Պերուի նախկին նախագահ Ալան Գարսիան դատարանի որոշմամբ կոռուպցիայի գործով ձերբակալության ժամանակ ինքնասպանության փորձ է արել և մահացել մայրաքաղաք Լիմայի հիվանդանոցում, հաղորդում է The Guardian-ը:  

Դատարանը Գարսիային 10 օրով կալանքի տակ պահելու որոշում էր կայացրել: Այն պահին, երբ դատախազության աշխատակիցները Գարսիայի տուն են գնացել և ցույց տվել հրամանը, 69-ամյա քաղաքական գործիչն ինքնասպան է եղել՝ ատրճանակից գլխին կրակելով:

Երկրի ներքին գործերի նախարար Կառլոս Մորանը հայտնել է, որ իրավապահ մարմինների աշխատակիցները «գործել են համապատասխան արձանագրությունների շրջանակներում»:

Հաղորդվում է, որ Պերուի նախկին նախագահը կասկածվում է բրազիլական Odebrecht շինարարական ընկերության գործով կոռուպցիայի համար: Դատարանի կարծիքով՝ Գարսիան, հնարավոր է, 100 հազար դոլար է ստացել Odebrecht ընկերության համար շահավետ պայմանագրեր կնքելու դիմաց:
