LIFEԱնառողջ սնունդն ավելի շատ մարդու կյանք է խլում, քան ծխելն ու հիպերտոնիան։ Բիլ և Մելինդա Գեյթսերի հիմնադրամի ֆինանսավորած հետազոտության համաձայն՝ մեծ քանակությամբ մսի և նվազագույն քանակությամբ բանջարեղենի օգտագործումը յուրաքանչյուր տարի դառնում է առնվազն 500 հազար ամերիկացու և 90 հազար բրիտանացու մահվան պատճառ։ Շուրջ 40 երկրից ավելի քան 30 գիտնականների հետազոտության արդյունքները հրապարակվել են The Lancet պարբերականում։
2017-ին «արևմտյան դիետան» (կարմիր մսի, ճարպերի և շաքարի սպառման բարձր մակարդակ՝ մրգերի և բանջարեղենի սպառման ցածր մակարդակի ֆոնին) աշխարհում յուրաքանչյուր հինգերորդ մարդու մահվան պատճառ է դարձել (10․9 մլն չափահաս մարդ)։
Տարեկան վիճակագրությամբ՝ ոչ ճիշտ սննդի պատճառով մահերի մեծ քանակություն է գրանցվել Չինաստանում, Հնդկաստանում և Ռուսաստանում (3 մլն, 2 մլն և 550 հազար՝ համապատասխանաբար)։ Այս երկրներին հաջորդում է ԱՄՆ-ն, իսկ Մեծ Բրիտանիան 18-րդ տեղում է։
Գիտնականները կոչ են անում ուշադրություն դարձնել այս ցուցանիշներին։ Անառողջ սնունդն ազդում է մարդու վրա՝ անկախ սեռից, տարիքից և սոցիալական կարգավիճակից։
