«Առողջ մարմնում առողջ հոգի» հանրահայտ կարգախոսը ենթադրում է, որ մարդը պետք է զբաղվի սպորտով, կոփի իր մարմինը և այլն: Մի խոսքով, սա առողջ ապրելակերպի գովազդ է, հետևաբար սրա հեղինակները բժիշկներն են: Ավելին, ըստ մեր իրականության մեջ տարածված մոլորության, դա խորհրդային շրջանի կարգախոս է:

Իրականում այդպես չէ:

Պարզվում է, որ այս կոչն առաջին անգամ հնչեցրել է, որքան էլ զարմանալի լինի, պոետը, այն էլ՝ սատիրիկ պոետը: Բանն այն է, որ հին հռոմեացի պոետ Յուվենալին է վերագրվում «Mens sana in corpore sano» արտահայտությունը, որն էլ թարգմանվում է որպես «Առողջ մարմնում առողջ հոգի»: Եվրոպայում դարերով բազմաթիվ սերունդներ են դաստիարակվել այս կարգախոսով, որը պարունակում է ազգասիրական և ռազմա-մարզական կոչ: Իրականությունն այն է, որ պոետ Յուվենալը այս կարգախոսի տակ բոլորովին այլ բան է նկատի ունեցել: Նրա ստեղծագործություններից վերցված այս դարձվածքը հնչում էր որպես «Orandum est ut mens sana in corpore sano», կամ թարգմանաբար՝ «Ցանկալի է, որ առողջ մարմնում լինի նաև առողջ հոգի»: Այսինքն, սա ոչ թե ֆիզկուլտուրայի «հիմն ու գովք» է, այլ ավելի շուտ ցանկության արտահայտություն, թե ինչքան լավ կլիներ, որ ֆիզկուլտուրան ու սպորտը նաև ուղեղը զարգացնեին, այլ ոչ թե հակառակը: 

Դեցիմ Յունի Յուվենալը (60-127 թվականներ) հռոմեացի սատիրիկ պոետ էր: Դատելով գրական գործունեությունից՝ կարելի է ենթադրել, որ նա հարուստ ընտանիքից էր և փայլուն կրթություն էր ստացել: Նա մինչև 40-50 տարեկան դառնալը ինտենսիվորեն պարապել է՝ իհարկե ոչ սպորտով, այլ հռետորական արվեստով: Ընդ որում, ոչ թե փող աշխատելու կամ պաշտոն ստանալու համար, այլ իր սեփական հաճույքի համար: Ընդ որում, Յուվենալը որոշ ժամանակ նույնիսկ ռազմական տրիբուն էլ է եղել, իսկ իր հայրենի Լացիայում տեղական ինքնակառավարման մարմնում մեծ պաշտոն է ունեցել (մոտավորապես՝ ավագանու անդամ): Հետագայում, ըստ որոշ տեղեկությունների, նա կայսրի աչքից ընկել է և աքսորվել Իտալիայից: Յուվենալը որպես գրական ժառանգություն թողել է 16 երգիծական պոեմ: Զարմանալին այն է, որ իր պոեմներում նա երբեք չի ծաղրել ու քննադատել կենդանի մարդկանց, առավել ևս՝ ազդեցիկներին, այլ միայն մահացածներին և ցածր խավի մարդկանց: Բայց, չնայած դրան, աքսորվել է երկրից: Յուվենալի ստեղծագործությունները մեծ մասսայականություն են ձեռք բերել միայն միջնադարյան Եվրոպայում: «Առողջ մարմնում առողջ հոգի» արտահայտությունը հանրահայտ է դարձել 17-րդ դարից, երբ այն կրկնել են սկզբից փիլիսոփա Ջոն Լոկկը, ապա՝ գրող-լուսավորիչ Ժան Ժակ Ռուսսոն: Իրականում երկուսն էլ, այդ արտահայտությունը կրկնելով, այն միտքն են արտահայտել, որ առողջ մարմինը չի երաշխավորում առողջ հոգու առկայություն, բայց պետք է ձգտել հասնել դրան:Ժամանակակից սատիրիկ պոետ Իգոր Իրտենևը «Առողջ մարմնում առողջ հոգի» հանրահայտ կարգախոսին ևս մի տող է ավելացրել և ստացվել է ահա այսպիսի արդյունք.
