Մենք գիտենք, որ...

Նյութը կազմված է մոլեկուլներից, որոնք էլ իրենց հերթին կազմված են ատոմներից, իսկ ատոմը իրենից ներկայացնում է ատոմի միջուկ՝ իր շուրջը պտտվող մեկ և ավելի էլեկտրոններով: Այսինքն, ատոմը կազմված է միջուկից և էլեկտրոններից

Իրականում այնքան էլ այդպես չէ:

Պարզապես ատոմի հիմնական պարունակությունը դատարկությունն է: Այսինքն, ատոմի ներսում համարյա ոչինչ էլ չկա: Այս ամենը հասկանալու համար ընդամենը պատկերացնենք, որ ունենք մարզադաշտի մեծության ատոմ: Այս դեպքում կտեսնենք, որ մարզադաշտի տրիբունայի վերջին շարքում էլեկտրոններն են, որոնց մեծությունը մոտավորապես գնդասեղի գլխիկի չափ է, դաշտի կենտրոնում միջուկն է՝ ոլոռի չափով, իսկ մնացած մարզադաշտը ընդամենը դատարկություն է: Դարերի ընթացքում տեսականորեն համարվել է, որ ատոմները մատերիայի ամենամանրագույն մասնիկներն են, ընդ որում՝ անբաժանելի մասնիկները (հունարեն «ատոմ» նշանակում է «անբաժանելի»): Միայն 1897 թվականին է հայտնաբերվել բացասական լիցքավորված էլեկտրոնը, իսկ 1911 թվականին՝ ատոմի միջուկը: Ավելի ուշ՝ 1932 թվականին, հաջողվել է այդ «անբաժանելի» ատոմի միջուկը բաժանել՝ ճեղքել, որի արդյունքում էլ մարդիկ իմացան նեյտրոնների և այն մասին, որ ատոմի միջուկը կազմված է չեզոք նեյտրոններից և դրական լիցքավորված պրոտոններից: Հետագայում պարզվեց, որ այս իրոք մանրագույն մասնիկներն իրենց հերթին կազմված են էլ ավելի մանր էլեմենտներից, որոնք այնքան մանր են, որ նրանց կոչեցին ենթաատոմային մասնիկներ կամ քվարկներ: Մինչև 1950 թվականը հայտնաբերվեցին այնքան ենթաատոմային մասնիկներ (100-ից ավելի), որ անգամ որևէ գիտնական հազիվ թե դրանց անունները հիշի: Ասենք, որ ատոմները շատ փոքր են և նրանց չափը մոտ 100 պիկոմետր է (մեկ մետրի տասը միլիարդերորդը)։ Ընդ որում, ատոմի զանգվածի ավելի քան 99.94%-ը միջուկի զանգվածն է: Միջուկը կազմված է մեկ կամ ավելի պրոտոններից և սովորաբար գրեթե նույն քանակությամբ նեյտրոններից ։ Ատոմում պրոտոնների քանակով է պայմանավորված, թե ինչ քիմիական տարրի ատոմ է այն, օրինակ՝ պղնձի բոլոր ատոմներն ունեն 29 պրոտոն, իսկ նեյտրոնների թվով է պայմանավորված, թե քիմիական տարրի որ իզոտոպից է ատոմը։ Ռեզերֆորդը ժամանակին առաջարկել է ատոմի կառուցվածքի մոդել, որը հիշեցնում է արեգակնային համակարգը: Դա ստացավ մոլորակային մոդել անունը։ Ըստ այդ մոդելի, ատոմի կենտրոնում գտնվում է դրական լիցք ունեցող միջուկը, որի զանգվածը գրեթե հավասար է ատոմի զանգվածին։ Մի ջուկի շուրջ պտտվում են էլեկտրոնները (ինչպես մոլորակները Արեգակի շուրջը)։ Չլիցքավորված (չեզոք) ատոմում էլեկտրոնների թիվը այնպիսին է, որ նրանց գումարային բացասական լիցքը չեզոքացնում է միջուկի դրական լիցքը։ Ի տարբերություն մոլորակային համակարգում գործող ձգողության ուժի, ատոմում գործում է էլեկտրական՝ կուլոնյան ուժը: Ի դեպ, տիեզերքն էլ այնպիսին է, ինչպես ատոմը. տիեզերքի հիմնական մասը ևս դատարկությունն է, ինչպես ատոմի ներսում է դատարկություն: Պատկերացրեք՝ եթե տիեզերքի ամբողջ մատերիան հավասարապես բաժանենք, կստացվի, որ տիեզերքի մեկ խորանարդ մետրում կլինի ընդամենը նյութի մեկ-երկու ատոմ: Չնայած այդ դատարկությանը, երբեմն ձգողության ուժով որոշ ատոմներ մոտենում են իրար և վերածվում աստղերի, մոլորակների և այն ամեն ինչի, որը մենք կոչում ենք մատերիա:
