Հայ Առաքելական եկեղեցին այս տարի մարտի 3-ին է տոնում Բուն Բարեկենդանը, որը նախորդում է քառասնօրյա Մեծ պահքին: Արարատյան Հայրապետական թեմի տեղեկատվական բաժնից, Թեմի առաջնորդարանի բակում՝ Ս. Սարգիս եկեղեցու հարեւանությամբ տեղի կունենա տոնախմբություն' Բուն Բարեկենդանի առթիվ, իսկ նախապես հայտարարված երթը եղանակի անբարենպաստ լինելու պատճառով չի կայանա։   

Սովորաբար Բարեկենդան է կոչվում շաբաթապահքերի և Մեծ պահքի նախընթաց օրը: Մեծ պահքի բարեկենդանը կոչվում է Բուն Բարեկենդան, քանի որ նախորդում է ամենաերկար պահքին, որը տևում է 48 օր` մինչև Սուրբ Հարության տոն։ Բարեկենդանին թույլատրվում են չափավոր վայելքներ, խրախճանքներ, խաղեր եւ ուտեստներ։

Բարեկենդան, որ բառացի նշանակում է բարի կենդանություն, ուրախություն, մարդու երջանկության հիշատակն է, որը դրախտում վայելում էին Ադամն ու Եվան: Այն նաև դրախտային կյանքի օրինակն է, որտեղ մարդուն արտոնված էր ճաշակել բոլոր պտուղները, բացառությամբ բարու և չարի գիտության ծառի պտղից, որը պահքի  խորհրդանիշն է: Այդ օրը մարդիկ սգից անցնում են ուրախության, չարչարանքից` խաղաղության: Այս ընկալմամբ է, որ յուրաքանչյուր քրիստոնյա հոգու խոնարհումով, ապաշխարությամբ, պահքով և ողորմության հույսով  սկսում է Մեծ պահքի ճանապարհը: Պահքի շրջանում օգտագործում են բացառապես բուսական ծագում ունեցող սննդամթերք, հրաժարվում են ոչ միայն որոշակի կերակուրներից, այլև մոլի սովորություններից, շատախոսությունից, ստախոսությունից, հայհոյանքից և այլ մեղքերից: Կերակրից հրաժարվելն առանց մեղքից հետ կանգնելու անօգուտ է:

Որպես ժողովրդական տոնախմբության օր` Բուն Բարեկենդանին, բնորոշ է կերուխում, տարբեր խաղեր՝ ձիարշավ, սրախաղ, թատերախաղ, տարբեր կենդանիների դիմակներով տոնախմբություն։

Բարեկենդանին նախապատվությունը տրվում է մսեղենի, կաթնեղենի առատությանը: Տավարի, ոչխարի և թռչնեղենի մսից պատրաստում են տարբեր ճաշատեսակներ, ուտում են խաշած ձու, զերծ չեն մնում նաև քաղցրեղենից: Բուն Բարեկենդանի տոնական սեղանին նախընտրելի է տեսնել փահլավա, գաթա, հալվա:
