1988թ.–ի սեպտեմբերի 21–ին Թարֆ, Ջորդան և Չանդրա եռյակը 17 ամսեկան էր, երբ ճակատագիրը ծանր հարված հասցրեց նրանց։ Փոքրիկները պատկերացում անգամ չունեին, թե ինչ էր կատարվել իրենց հետ այդ օրը։


Իսկ կատարվել էր ամենասարսափելին. ամբողջովին այրվել էր նրանց տունը։ Բայց դա դժբախտություններից ամենաքիչն էր։ Հրդեհի արդյունքում զոհվել էր նրանց մայրը...

Հուսահատ հայրը փորձում էր ինչ որ կերպ փրկել ննջարանում մնացած իր դստրերին, բայց ապարդյուն։ Միայն հրշեջների ժամանումից հետո է հնարավոր լինում մտնել այրվող տուն։


Բարեբախտաբար երեխաների հայրը տուժած չի լինում, իսկ աղջիկներին անմիջապես տեղափոխում են հիվանդանոց։ Ընդհանուր առմամբ երեխաների մաշկի 30-45% այրված էր։ Նրանք մի քանի ամիս մնացին հիվանդանոցում։ Նույնիսկ պատահեց այնպես, որ բժիշկները սկսեցին վախենալ նրանց կյանքի համար։

Չնայած այրվածքների պատճառած ֆիզիկական և մորը կորցնելուց հետո առաջացած հոգեկան ցավերի, աղջնակաները շարունակում էին ուրախանալ և ավելի գնահատել մեկմեկու։ Բայց առջևում նրանց նոր փորձություններ էր սպասվում։

Սարսափելի հրդեհից փրկված հայրը մահանում է 2002–ին, թմրանյութերից։ Ամբողջովին որբացած երեխաները տեղափոխվում են տատիկի մոտ։


Թրոֆի, Ջորդանի և Չանդրայի մաշկն ամբողջովին այլանդակված էր։ Տասնյակ վիրահատությունները չկարողացան վերացնել չարաբաստիկ հրդեհի հետքերը։


Աղջիկների վերածվող աղջնակները գնալով հասկանում էին, որ իրենց արտաքինը տարբերվում է մյուս հասակակիցների տեսքից։ Դիմահարդարումն ու երկար հագուստը նույնպես փրկություն չէին։

Շրջապատի մարդիկ չէին կարողանում թաքցնել իրենց սարսափը` աղջիկներին տեսնելիս։ Վերջիններս կամաց–կամաց սկսում էին ամաչել իրենց գոյությունից։


Բայց քույրերը որոշեցին չհանձնվել։ Մի անգամ Չանդրան լսեց ոմն բժիշկ Ջիլի մասին, ով մասնագիտացած էր այրվածքների սպիների վերացման գործում։ 

Բժշկին եռյակի դեպքն այնքան լուրջ թվաց, որ նա որոշեց անվճար վիրահատել` համատեղ ուսումնասիրության պայմանով։ Ջորդանի համար այդ լուրն իսկական նվեր էր. նա պատրաստվում էր ամուսնանալ։ Հարսանեկան զգեստը փորձելիս ապագա հարսնացուն ցնցված էր իր կերպարանափոխությունից.

–Ես երբեք չէի համարձակվի հագնել այս զգեստը, եթե սպիներով պատված լինեի։ 


Այսօր քույրերն իրենց ավելի վստահ են զգում և իրենց օրինակով հույս են տալիս հրդեհում այլանդակված մյուս մարդկանց։


2009 թ.–ից ի վեր ավելի քան 50 հազար մարդ է նմանատիպ բուժման կուրս անցել` ընդմիշտ ազատվելով սպիներից։
